Swindon in the play off semi-final! Driving down the A27 and not being able to see out the windscreen, getting there and being soaked and what happened. Unbelievable. The best soaking ever.

Northampton on a Friday night in 1987 springs to mind, because we won 3-0 and made a big step towards promotion.

I remember that one, during my formative years at the Goldstone.

Absolutely caned it down all night, but we completely cocked up their run of form and sent them spinning into freefall, while we made the late run for the second automatic promotion spot.

Thing that always sticks in my mind was driving home afterwards, still in the pouring rain, and there was a major crash on the A23 northbound. Turned out later a Northampton fan was killed in the crash, which kind of put things into perspective.

Getting totally out of perspective again, however, Swindon is certainly a highlight, at least for the last minute of extra time at any rate. And I'm sure it had been pissing it down for the legendary Chesterfield game, as my everlasting memory of that night is watching loads of people ecstatically splashing through the puddles behind the goal at the end of the match. Think it's on the video, in slow motion, with appropriately upbeat Fatboy SLim music in the background!

The Swinners play-off game, if I remember rightly it stopped just before the kick-off and then started again just as we won the penalties. Really weird. The downpour just before the kick off was absiolautely ridiculous though.

Another one that sticks in the mind was when we were last in Div One against Bradford.

I think we won 3-2 and it stopped our losing 14 match run or whatever. It just didnt stop raining heavily the whole game.

I was soaked through to my little pants and my phone was f***ed cos it got so wet in my pocket.

Laugh
