In 6 seasons theres been 115 or so games and about 110 of those it has pissed down.

As Withdean appears to be the wettest place in the entire World, I was thinking of all those happy drenchings over the years, all those bollock freezing occassions, all those wonderful colds and flues courtesy of the Withdean experience.

What is your most memorable drenching ?.

Yesterday was a day where razor blade sales would have gone through the roof if there had been a razor blade shop nearby but the drenching was not too bad, just a combo of bollock freezing and dampness. The 2 that spring to mind are the play off semi finals against Swindon when the water caome though 4 layers of clothes and Rochdale when it rained 6 inches in 2 hours.

So many choices whats your favourite ?.

My long range weather forecast for Withdean is

V Rotherham - Heavy Rain
V Stoke - annoying drizzle
V Gillingham - East wind and driving sleet

Home leg of the Swindon play offs.

Drenched to the skin, losing 2-0, Charlie Oatway takes a throw in, Danny Cullip heads it on and Virgo runs from the half way line to head it into the net. :clap2:

Followed by penalties :clap2: :clap2: :clap2: :clap2: then Cardiff :clap2: :clap2:
Cue most of Withdean dancing in the rain on the running track and the pitch. Biscuit with all his hair dye running down his face :lolol:

definately the rochdale match - that was the day when i was sat, on my own, cold, soaked and totally pissed off - and i decided that i was not going to ever buy a season ticket again while we are at withdean (at least while the ground is in it's present format).

Last time we were in the old Div 3, the match against Shrewsbury. It had been raining steadily all day but by the time I got to the ground the heavens had opened and it was absolutely chucking it down. The rain had gone through all my tops and was running down my back, my jeans had started sticking to my legs and my trainers had about 2 inches of water in them as I squelched along the road.
It carried on all through the 1st half but then suddenly stopped, and amazingly within 10 mins the sun had come out. Then that awful drying out period took place where you start steaming and your jeans feel like they're tightening around your legs.
That was the game when I finally decided to get down the Seagull shop and purchase the set of waterproofs I had always promised myself. So even though most people think that Swindon was the worst soaking ever, it wasn't for me because I had my trusty waterproofs on (one of the best purchases I've ever made).
Why don't you all ask for a set of waterproofs for Xmas and it will be problem solved!!
BTW it was Albion 4 Shrewsbury 0.:bounce:

rochdale - i was ballboy for that one, and sat in the middle of the running track in front of the north stand. and it was impossible to ballboy, as the club didn't have any prioper jackets for us, only ponchos, where there is no where to put your arms through and pick up the ball

I don't know what you are all moaning about - I can remember numerous deluges on the old East terrace at the Goldstone, whic h for our younger members was also uncovered. Northampton on a Friday night in 1987 springs to mind, because we won 3-0 and made a big step towards promotion. Also - a 5-0 win over Darlington or Chesterfield in about 1965.

Shrewsbury came to my mind as soon as I read this thread. My leather jacket took about 3 weeks to dry out and weighed a ton by the time I got home.

Swindon play-off was soaked to the bone too, was just starting to feel the wet and becoming miserable when up stepped Virgo and everything was forgotten.

Home game against Swindon in the play offs.

It had been a nice day which I had spent at the marina and got dropped off at the Sportsman and said to my girlfriend 'its a nice day, I wont need my coat' so ended up with just an albion shirt on when it rained.

Well worth it though.

I think Shrewsbury was the worst but the football made up for it.
The only concern was that it might get abandoned. During the sequence of home wins in 2002 Cardiff, Tranmere, Reading it bucketed down consistently but that seemed to be a good omen.

I was dry for the Rochdale downpour as I was stuck on the M25 in a jam for over 4 hours and never got closer to Withdean than Jct 27 of the M25

V Tranmere in 2002 on a Tuesday night. Gary Hart scored a corker off the underside of the bar.

I was f***ing soaked.

But yesterday was defo the coldest.

I had a t-shirt, polo shirt, Skint sweat shirt, The new stripes, England red jersey & a big f***-off 'managers' coat on. Plus a scarf & cap.

I still froze my 'nads off.

:(

Even my half time coffee was cold when I got back to my seat. Conversely, my Mars Bar was double rock hard - almost a lethal weapon.

swindon home leg for me too. came down on the train from manchester that day, met my dad in hay heath then carried onto brighton in our shirts and i was wearing my brighton rimmed hat, lovely day it was. went for a few pints in the font in the lanes, and when we came out the weather had changed slightly for the worse!!

sat depressed and absolutely drenched shivering in my shirt the whole game plus extra time... and then........... :) :clap2:

everyones mood completely changed all in a split second. thats what makes football the sport it is! :clap2:

Was it Mullery who, at half time and losing, kept the players on the pitch in the pouring rain?

And we went on to win!

I don't know the details, just saw him interviewed a while back and this story sticks.
