Without wishing to cause you offence, that is a desperately naive question. Having scanned your other posted topics today I think you've got a lot of pent up anger there son. See off a bottle of Jack Daniels and you'll be fine.

nah we had to win otheriwse at every eng v germany match the germans would be rubbing our noses into it!

5-1!

WWII wasn't a football match between two more or less evenly matched teams, with a prize for the winners and a consolation prize for the losers.

It was a war fought against a regime dedicated to the brutal imposition of its theories of racial superiority, backed by ruthless military power.

All in all, a good war to have won.

Note that great deal of the German infrastructure was put in place by the Brits following WWII.

Bringing it to modern day, I think the same will happen to Iraq (on obviously a far less grand scale than Hitler and pre-1945 Germany). Once the place is up and running properly (about 2 years from now), people will look back and realise what a cracking job is being done. Should have happened many years prior, mind, which is part of the issue with the "no war in Iraq" brigade, but at least it is done.

no no no, one of the reasons germany has a good infrasructure, was because we bombed the shit out of it during the war, and was completley rebuilt afterwards with British and Yank money, hence why their trains run on time.

and a British soldier actually started the VW company up again.

Not entirely sure what you're asking GG.

We have better employment than Germany, we have better race relations than Germany, we have access to health care that although by no means perfect is good and is free at the point of delivery, our standard of living is far better than the average German and in truth I don't know the crime stats and quite honestly I wouldn't trust any I read - lets face we're all sure that the British crime stats aren't accurate are'nt we.

So no, we would have been immeasurably worse off losing the war if that is what you meant.

WW2 is possibly the only war in history that was 'Good v Evil'. We could have made a separate peace with Germany in 1940 after the Battle of Britain but we chose to keep on fighting.

Germany is (was?) a more financially sound and 'better' country because after the war they spent their Marshall Aid money more wisely than we did.

Germany are actually in dire straights at the moment and if you remember were partitioned for 40 odd years.

I hardly think Germany is a shing example of how to run your economy

I blame the french

In my opinion,
It didn't really matter.
I know that sounds like nonsense but:
On the one hand, it's impossible to tell what other factors would have come in to play - Fascism was just a phase, one of the most short-lived political doctrines to date. Assuming some peace was made with the USSR, dividing up Europe between Germany and the Soviet Union, it could never have lasted, either through a continuing state of war or through internal revolutionary uprising on one side or the other.

Also, it depends what you mean by "we". The US and USSR were more than capable of winning the war between them (and pretty much did). Hitler had no plans for "Germanisation" of the UK and we'd probably find ourselves in just about the same political situation as we have now, only with a much more advanced federal Europe.

As for economic advantages / disadvatages, the war was always going to be a total economic disaster for us, whether we won or not. The strain of inter-war rearmourment and the beginning of the end of empire had already driven us to the brink of bankruptcy.

You may have a point rearding the bureaucratic aspect, well, Germany had the advantage in so far as they were starting completely from scratch with all their social systems, their fourth attempt in less than a century.

Aside from all that,

Nobocy likes to lose to Ze Germans do they?

In terms of post-war reconstruction, that's about it.
We spent just about all our cash on the NHS and the welfare state.
Germany on the other hand continued with austerity whilst rebuilding their industries and export power. This ulitimately made their economy rich enough to provide almost all the benefits people had over here, coupled with a better standard of living.

If we had lost, the Jews would've probably been totally extinct. Israel would never have been created, and the Palestinians would've had a country of their own called Palestine.

With one regime running the World, mankind would have invented new things to war about, and civil unrest against the ruling party would have festered until that party withdrew and gave up, or genocide would have been the probable alternative. Therefore all would live in fear, and freedom of speech and thought would not exist.

Eventually, total rebellion and anarchy would preside, and the Germans would have become the Romans of our day.
