I am a btt younger at 62, but my travels to/from Somerset have finally caught up with me.... if it isn't Chichester, Arundel or Worthing traffic carnage...it ends up being one of the many queues in or out of Falmer to endure... parking, train, food, toilet....I called it quits recently too, cancelled my ST renewal at a cost of £20....

Am totally with you,sir, as I have done exactly the same after 60 years of support. Yes, could be said I chose to move to Dorset, but the road network east west is absolutely shite !

I normally leave hove 1hr 15 before kick off. Yesterday was the 1st time I've missed kick off (by 4 minutes), due to (I assume) sunday service on the trains & a delayed bus to Brighton station

I can only comment on the issue of the road works.

I was really surprised to see all the comments on the delays for fans so they missed part of the match yesterday. I am not doubting it happened, it's just that as I said earlier we have been using seagull travel from Portslade southern cross all season including the last 3 home games with the road works and while yes it has taken longer, we have only had 15/20 minutes added to the journey. To take yesterday as an example, we left southern cross at 12.10, had one stop at the old Shoreham road/Neville Road junction and arrived at the Amex(via the road works) at 13.10.

My guess is that our bus, and the others from Seagull travel leave early enough to avoid the real trouble. I'm not looking forward to the Liverpool game as it will probably add rush hour traffic to the mix.

As far as the road works are concerned from what I saw yesterday they were going well as at least half of the distance had new safety barriers in place.

A thought about alternatives. If it is feasible for any drivers to get onto the seafront A259 maybe try going East to Rottingdean and then up the road through Woodingdean to Falmer. That's what I did for the women's match v Liverpool. I appreciate the traffic was lighter then, but it might be worth a try.

Did the trains hold a Sunday church service ?

Think you’ll find there was the extra Eastbourne service missing, only hourly.
That could have been another 750+ passengers on an 8 car train.

I've said this before and will say it again (because I'm not driving up from Dorset anymore)....following a recent survey, the Amex is the only Premier League club with a ground 8 miles from the city centre. It relies on public transport (no trains yesterday), parking (no comment) .....

Beause that’s the average walking speed of most people, especially over 4 miles which is a trek (for most people).

What route did your ST bus take?

I've got a 'season ticket' for MB51 which leaves Shoreham Beach 2 hours and 5 minutes before kick off. But for the last few games - including yesterday - I've not taken the bus to the game as the journey time has increased and as I get on at the first stop, I'm already on the bus 70/75 mins without the additional delays caused by the A27 roadworks. Instead, as the weather has been OK, I've used a combination of walking (so getting some exercise in on match days) and either the 700 or B&H bus. I then find MB51 in the coach park after the game for the trip back to Shoreham.

The increased time that some buses are experiencing is down to the individual bus driver and their local knowledge and decision making. Our usual driver is fantastic - but is sadly on long term sick at the moment. He's also an Albion STH in the North Stand and therefore as keen as the rest of us to get to the ground ASAP. The driver we've had in his place doesn't seem to have the same knowledge and sense of urgency. He's made some rather odd - bad - decisions on the route he takes. For a couple of the recent games he's taken a route avoiding the lane closure, but when I got on the bus after the game yesterday, I spoke to a few people who said he seemed to make a last minute decision to head straight up to the A27 where they then sat in the traffic for ages. They made kick off - but were much later than they had been.

I also believe that a couple of the ST coaches got really caught up in the A27 shit show and didn't arrive until after kick off.

Think it was all down to whether you were in front of the broken down coach full of Geordies on the a27 or behind it. Guessing you managed to get through before the coach broke down
