This review from a punter on Beer in the Evening pretty much sums up what it was like the last time I went in there

"Nice Pub - as long as you have eighteen children.
And lots of tattoos.
And live in a caravan.
And a dog, on a rope.
And don't understand that pubs who serve 2 eels for a tenner do so because they have to.
Hopeless. Shame as it's a great location - trouble is it's just too big for anyone to have the money to do it properly.

How about a dog fighting night? Would go down well with the punters...."

Wouldn't ever go to the Swiss for a drink, as someone above said, it's full of screaming kids. And I certainly wouldn't go there to eat.

All in all I'd say it's to be well and truely avoided

Shame. Used to go there a lot in the summer when the kids were younger and it was brilliant. The food was nothing special but it was cheap and ok. We used to like eating in the extension 'thing' that juts out over the water. Haven't been for a few years and it sounds like a place to be avoided now.

You certainly get what you pay for at the Swsiss. The food is cheap crap.
I had a gammon steak there once, stringy and undercooked. Sent it back and asked for another one - it came back the same. Had my meal knocked off the bill at least, but it really is the pits.

Exactly the same thing happened with my Girlfriend. Except with the Cod. They didn't even say sorry.
I've had the Chicken Burger, and Chicken Tikka Masalla from there, and thought it was quite nice.

I love it. food, you get what you pay for and its ok for the money. Though if I didnt have a little one to take I wouldnt probably bother. She gets to feed the ducks. Its really great if you have kids but otherwise hey ho

thats the problem,2 meals for 9 quid says it all,but even if its cheap, the standard should be good if its 5 quid or 50 quid.
The food is all brought in and frozen, cant even manage to cook that properly.
The problem isnt just them, its the public that except utter tosh, they except that because its cheap, its ok to take it,bollocks.

Really is that bad eh? back in the late 60s and 70s it was a very popular place to go, always was a kids place, I suppose thats because of the lake, ducks etc, back then if my memory is right, i think we used to just have burgers and things like that for food, I'm almost sure all the food then was just basket meals.

Shame it's gone so bad, the location and surroundings were always good.

Seems we're the only ones to have done ok here - Last month had a quick lunch of burgers and chips, and it was perfectly acceptable fare in quiet riverside surroundings..

The LAST time I went to the Swiss Cottage was circa 1973 .... so have no comment except to say I saw Leo (Gerry) Sayer do a gig there before he became big!

Riverside surroundings ? were you in the right place ? It's about 200 yards from the river, over the road behnd terraced houses. Possibly you meant "pondside" surroundings.

It's a bit of a shame, I've not been there for a long while, but the proerty itself has great potential, huge pub building, quite a bit of land for beer garden etc. plus the pond, it's actually quite scenic and reasonably quiet. Shame the beer and the food are so bad.

As others have said, selling 2 meals for £9 says a lot, either desperation or poor food.

Anothe reason to hate the place is their decision to get rid of the pool table
