Used to like a few nights down Casablanca. They had a VW mini on the top floor and great live bands and dj's downstairs.

Speaking for the "youth", i think this all boils down to perspective, and the difference between the generations. For example, what was popular and played throughout the 90's and early 00's, simply wouldn't draw many people my age in.
Now it's not even about the music and the socialising. Now, it's all about going out and getting absolutely ****faced, and getting off with as many girls (or boys, depending on your preference) as possible. So many of the people i know go out and can't even remember most of the night, let alone try and enjoy it.

Are you including Brighton in that or are you out in London and Berlin mostly? As I think the big cultural centres will always have enough going on to cater for everyone.

I know I'm generalising about the younger generation but I just don't think anything is on the same scale as it used to be.

I am referring to Brighton mainly. The live music scene has grown over the last 10 years and in part due to teens to early/mid 20s which have helped this growth. Maybe it isn't on the same scale but it is significant and very noticeable IMHO.

The End was great. Did you ever go to The Cross? Loved that place.

I went there - one Friday a month they had a mixed night called Glitterati which was fantastic - great vibe. I had my stag night with 15 mates in Bagleys which required extensive recuperation afterwards....great times.

Had some good nights out in my yoof, at Catfish club, Zap, or Honey Club. Work parties usually ended up raving at the Gloucester, showing the pished up stoodents how to do it.

Weekly plan was to get w@nkered on a pub crawl around the lanes, try your luck pulling the lasses at Pav Tav, then on to one of the above.

I used to mainly go to Seb Fontaine's Type evening which was first class and as you say a great vibe. It was a lovely place, great people and in the summer the outside area was nice. I rarely saw Seb though, I used to hang out in the middle tunnel/room listening to the likes of Lottie, Yousef and our very own Fatboy on one occassion. I think I did Glitteratti, it rings a bell. I also went to a night called Chic Freak Boutique which was pretty crazy. Good times.

There was an article about the demise of UK clubbing in the press a few weeks back. It suggested the emergence of EDM and dance festivals is partly to blame. THe theory being that kids and DJs wait for these big events as opposed to working the clubs week in, week out. I can see their argument but equally I guess the underground is still there, just not as big as it once was.

Didn't The Cross used to host Renaissance nights?

Don't think I ever went there but that whole goods yard was chocka with clubs back in the day, and Egg wasn't far off either. Actually I notice Egg is still going. I wonder what sort of crowd they get in there these days

The cross and the Egg top night clubs back in the day many morning spent stumbling out at 7am ....good times!!!

London is still decent. Eric Prydz & Deadmau5 at Electric Brixton on Sunday was a techno fest of smiling faces until 6am. One of the best nights I've had in years.

Brighton really struggles now. Audio is OK, but they give away entry for free to much for my liking and it's not big enough to attract bigger names

Went to Fabric on Friday to a Playaz night b2b 21 years of Jungle in room 2 - got to admit never really got in to it which has not been the case for most nights recently but they have been in much smaller clubs with little/no tourists and generally old headz as the music and DJs has been aimed at the older skool making a much better environment to get deep in the dance

How no one has mentioned the Escape beggars believe!!! I remember seeing unheard of dj`s Daft Punk, Basement Jax & Sonique smashing it there! John `00` Fleming, Graeme Park, Jeremy Healy, Danny Rampling, John Digweed, John of the Pleased Women at Babelicious!, 2000 clubbers packing out the Paradox on a Monday night!
