On a more important note - Princess KATE looks quite CLATTERABLE today.

Setting himself up nicely for a three set thrashing by Federer, Djokovich or Nadal (not sure who's side of the draw he's in)

Would have to beat 2 of them to win it (not at the same time, that would be asking a little too much) ... Nadal is in his path first.

If that's aimed at me, then yes, straight sets 6-1 7-5 6-4 - I don't know him, is he a qualifier ?

Think he was a qualifier. To be fair Malisse is not as strong as Soderling but this boy is gonna be a handful in the next few years. First of the next generation i reckon.

Yes, qualifier. Australian, 18 years of age, 6 ft 4 - gonna be one hell of a player. I fancy him to take at least a set off Djokovic in the QFs.

Could he do "a becker" ? Not likely with 2 of the best of all time playing so well, but you never know.

*** whenever Boris is mentioned I have to bring up the fact that I once played against him.

Did you win?

Me ? Well no, it was more of a 2 hour knock up really - baselining shots to each other, harder and harder whilst our coaches were chatting. Admitedly he was about 13 at the time, and I was a little older.

Must admit the thought had crossed my mind. Was raving about him to my house-mate this morning, and next thing I know he's down the bookies putting a quid on him to go all the way - 50/1. He seems to have a touch of arrogance about him, not necessarily a bad thing, and he has taken it all in his stride so far. Absolutely no issue closing out his matches, which is rare for such a young, inexperienced player - on the biggest stage in tennis.

I was genuinely frightened by how easily he dispatched of Soderling, it was some performance. Think talk of the title is a little premature atm, but potentially a contender in years to come!

Yep, definitely. Since the emergence of Nadal, Murray, Gasquet, Djokovic, Monfils, Baghdatis etc.. (all roughly 24/25 now), it's been hard to see where the next group of talent is coming from. You've got the likes of Del Potro & Cilic who are a bit younger, and despite the former having won a GS, neither have really threatened to get into that top 5. In one sense that's a good thing for Murray with regards to winning a major sometime in the next few years. But you sense the next group will be along at some point and Tomic could be the first of a few.

Del Potro was no. 5, pushing for 4 for a while wasn't he - before his injury - maybe that was just the 2,000 points for a slam that got him up there.

Yeh, he was up there briefly, and the injury did set him back quite a bit - but I think it'll be while yet before he's back to the level that saw him beat the likes of Federer & Nadal back in '09.
