This five year sequence of albums has always amazed me. Most other bands would wish for just one of these long players in their entire career....to release them back-to-back in just short of 5 years is quite breathtaking in my opinion. It's also worth noting that they are all varied in style. Whilst they are not without flaw, each has moments of genuine and supreme greatness.

My favourite is Beggars Banquet...home to the greatest song written and probably which will ever be written IMHO...Sympathy For The Devil.

Great post.

I have gone for Beggars Banquet also.

Just yesterday whilst listening to Revolver, I was thinking about how the truly great bands released quality albums 'every' year.

Most artists these days would take 15 years to release to release 5 albums.

Agree. These days, it's almost inconceivable to think a band will produce 5 quality albums let along do it on a yearly basis.

If I hadn't wiped my computer so many times, Sympathy for the Devil would probably be nearing 1000 itunes plays.

Like you I never tire of hearing this song, and I still get the same kick from it as when I first ever heard it. Everything about it is perfect.

For me it's Exile on Main Street, because it works best as an album. The other's have some stand out tracks, but just don't have the whole vibe going on across the whole record

What about, Get Yer Ya Ya's Out. All the good ones from 68, 69 and 70.
Some A and R man gave me a couple of dozen copies to give out at the 3rd IOW
festival. I still have one.

You've prompted me to delve into my Dylan discs. Good call about Blood On The Tracks. I also love Desolation Row.

Exile for me, quite possibly the best ever rock album by anyone. Love all those albums except Goats Head though.

Then he pissed off so many die hard fans by releasing an equally good but totally country album, Nashville Skyline. Probably listen to that more than any other Dyan album these days. Didn't this album follow a short hiatus after the motorbike accident?

am like you as i play this one quite often too. accident was 1966 and during his time out he was with the Band at big pink, tracks eventually released a few years later as the basement tapes. john wesley harding was next studio album post accident
