Absolutely. All in favour of red cards for diving. It would soon stamp it out.

This is not a case of slagging off all refs. Danson is a complete buffoon and always has been. He likes to be the centre of attention and always makes the most ridiculous decisions possible. Match after match , season after season, he shows himself up for the tosser he is and nothing is ever done. I have had very little problem with most refs this season but some decisions just defy belief. For example, can someone justify the ref's decision to book Knight for being elbowed against QPR? He 100% didn't see the incident (which happens) and neither did the linesman. In that case he simply HAD to wave play on, apologise for missing the incident and get on with it but no, he consults the linesman and they then GUESS that Knight dived presumably based on his reputation. F****** incredible. I agree that players and FIFA don't help the refs to do what is definately a difficult job but no one forces them.
Good refs stand out, namely Styles this season and Durkin last.

As a rider, I must add that it is unfair to compare football refs with rugby refs as thier game is a lot slower overall and allows a lot more contact.

I disagree on a couple of levels.

Firstly, they have a lot more going on around them. They have to officiate 30 players, and work out who was where when such and such happened. They do have the benefit of allowing play to be brought back from an incident 20 seconds ago, and penalising players in a way that football could benefit from.

Secondly, the majority of rugby refs are ex-players at a fairly senior level. They respect the players that they are arbitrating, mainly because they talk TO the players, rather than AT them. They explain the decisions as though they are talking to - well - adults.

Some footy refs just dish out the yellow card without even saying a word. If you got sacked or criticised at work, you would like to know why.

When that Palace player got sent off (yeah yeah, I know), the ref wouldn't even contemplate listening to the (correct) point that he was sending off the wrong man. They just naturally assume all players are wankers, and treat them as such.

This is why refs like Collina and Roger Milford are/were - quite rightly - lauded as good refs. They talk TO the players, use common sense, they stop and think, and have a level of intelligence which seems so spectacularly absent in the majority of refs.

As a Premiership ref, Danson clearly thought he was going to be the star of the show, was doing Brighton a favour by reffing the game, and made damn sure that people were going to talk about HIM. Wanker.

Yes, I agree. As I've said before, the only problem I have with referees is consistency, the difference in what constitutes a warning/caution/dismissal for different referees is the frustrating point.

But this does not make all referees imune to being complete pricks. Prosser obviously is because of the racism accusations. Isn't Danson the guy that refereed the Sunderland v Tranmere FA Cup tie, and sent off a player, then allowed him to be replaced by a substitute so both teams still had 11 men? Don't think there's much argument with that, being able to count should be a pre-requisite for a referee.

Prosser - Yes
D'urso - Yes
Dansen - Yes
Ross - Yes

These guys are a disgrace to referees they think that because they hold the FA badge on their shirts that they can f*** up and then when the general public see a mistake they tar the whole group of referees with the same brush !!

Its not fair ....

All you f***ing do is slag the referees off when given the circumstances, you wouldn't do any better would you ? I bet half of the people who swear blind at how shit this referee was, or what a w@nker the other one was , I bet you dont even know the FULL rules of the game.

You just turn up, shout at the referee (WHEN HE IS DOING THE CORRECT JOB) slag him off , and then go home.

I bet you wouldn't even :censored: take the referee course or even  be able to handle one bloody game. As a referee you have to have thick bloody skin, but you lot just take it too far :censored: sometimes. :shootself:

I admit some referees are absolutely shocking sometimes, but for god sakes until you experience being a referee, you are in no place to comment to be fair really.

I've done the refs test and know the rules but I still 'turn up, shout at the referee, slag him off, and then go home'

at every game the ref is going to get stick. its traditional to shout at the ref! :D

the main problem is that refs are not consistent enough.

I was impressed with Paul Durkin yesterday. Didn't give Shearer a penalty, when he was tripped by Howard. Watched the replay after the match. Saw that he was plainly wrong. Came in front of the cameras and explained that he had made a mistake because he hadn't seen the incident properly.

That's the way to do it.

I'd like to see referees wired up for sound, like rugby referees in top matches. That would not only be interesting, it would improve standards and improve understanding on the part of spectators.

Then Shearer still moaned because he said to Durkin that "if you didn't think it was a penalty why didn't you book me for diving?"

Which is complete rubbish, as Durkin may have thought Shearer simply fell over accidentally without looking for a penalty. So many people think now that if an incident isn't a penalty it must be a dive, which isn't the case. Plenty of good tackles result in players falling over accidentally.

Obviously it should have been a penalty though, but Newcastle can't complain too much as I didn't see much wrong with silvestre's disallowed goal either. Well played Durkin for holding his hands up at least.
