I've never particularly been a fan of Nick Cave's music, though lived very near him in Hove for a while and became nodding acquaintances briefly, much to the chagrin of one of my mates who says he is her all time hero and would give anything to meet him.

Anyway, ages ago I subscribed to his Red Hand Files - it's a weekly email where he responds to fan letters. Sometimes quite whimsical, sometimes not much in them, but more often than not little nuggets of wisdom. He's clearly a man of incredible compassion and empathy and I thought I'd share simply because it's the kind of thing that's worth sharing: https://www.theredhandfiles.com/

I read this one today - something I think I needed to read without realising so, and perhaps others might find something in one of his letters too https://www.theredhandfiles.com/how-to-heal-from-this/

That's very cool. I was a massive fan of the original Birthday Party (saw them 3 times) but less so of his more restrained musical evolution. Mrs T is the other way round. I have just forwarded her the link (expecting to hear back that she bookmarked it 20 years ago - lol!).

That wall is clearly incredibly valuable and a superb piece of work. Presumably he filters out the trolls (of which there are, apparently, countless). Having empathy is one thing. Having wisdom is something else. He seems to have both.

(and he seems to have come a long way since he sang "I stuck a six-inch gold blade in the head of a girl"....)
