The point is that Bobby Robson was a football man through and through, and a national treasure to boot, so it seems appropriate for a football crowd to come together in a show of respect for a man universally appreciated.

For me, it's more poignant, memorable and moving to hear a crowd of many thousands absolutely dead silent, united in a moment of individual grieving. However, as I said to my pal sitting next to me, "That's the only applause we'll be hearing today"...

I totally agree but we do seem to be in the minority. Ah well, as I didn't join in on Saturday here's my tribute now: "Woo! Yeah! You da man Bobby! Woo! Yeah! Go Bobby! Woo! Woo! Yeah!"
