Drums and goal music are proper tinpot this is well established and the atmosphere is always at its best when it is organic and nothing beats it. England games used to have a good atmosphere until they let in that awful band in banging out the great escape for 90min. I have not been in a ground in England where a drum has been anything other than an embarrassing monotonous noise with barely anyone singing along and goal music is for clubs like palace. Don’t even get me started on Tifos

There is a massive difference between a full blown band and a drum.

Having seen European football. It’s worth a go. Although it goes against English footballing culture.

We are a very middle class fanbase these days I agree but the idea a drum is going to get all the people politely clapping into some sort of wall of noise is fantasy. They will still be sitting there politely clapping but the rest of us have to listen to the 5 people joining in around the one drummer. See arsenal for reference

I do disagree with this though, the lad “banging” last night made a noticeable difference to the entire stand, even when we went behind for the second time, he got the stand singing together !

Well I couldn't hear the 'banging lad' up in the west but there were plenty of times the west sung it's own song without the need for any drum.

People also need to stop being such gatekeepers of atmosphere and fun. Stop telling people who are trying to make noise and having fun that they are "tinpot" and "cringe". All that does is drive an environment where we all sit in silence for fear of being mocked by others.

Let people enjoy themselves and express themselves. If drums and goal music makes an atmosphere and people enjoy it....let them. Don't mock them.

Nah, we wunt be druv mate, if they need mocking for being tinpot them mock we will.

Lots of banging on the back wall in the north last night. Under tv screen and the police box

It made a noticeable difference to the loudness and pace of the song and kept it going for longer with more people singing

I’m in block B of the North and didn’t hear the drumming or any songs from the other end of the stand.

It was pretty much all NSK songs up this end. Stadium acoustics I guess?

A decade long observation from West Lower (18 yard line near North).

Been said endlessly, but inescapable…

Two distinct North Stand singing sections are the issue. END OF.

The North Stand makes PLENTY of noise but it’s seldom (hardly ever) coordinated. Unlike any decent Amex away section (including ours on our travels).

Sort that conundrum - and there may be some unpalatable choices - but the atmosphere will improve

I was in West Upper half way line and I heard the wall banging muliple times. I thought it made a difference to the pace of the songs and the volume and its all we need. Remember this for next season and no drum required

I think if the club started playing songs that we sing to this will inevitably lead to greater participation of songs . ie if they played "I.m a believer " we would start singing the Baleba chant etc .. "Non singers" would eventually join in
