I think smilies have an importance since they can be used to signify the tone in which the typed word(s) is intended to be read.

Now, I'm not a big user of them at all which has, on occasion, meant a joke has been taken as being serious.

So - people should use them more than I do, but less than TC does. (Talking of which TC - if I see much more of you replying with a smilie only you know what will happen. If your post adds nothing to the discussion - don't make it)

Well said Bozza!!

I left a reply to Yorkie last month and didn't leave a smilie as I didn't use them at the time, But was having a bit of banter. What happend ? She ran to Lord Bracknell and complained about me offending her etc. I then got a PM from Mr Bracknell saying just cool it will yeh and after I replyed to him saying If I had put a smilie in my post then she would of found the funny side.

If I dont want to put a smilie then I wont, Does it mean then Bozza that if I dont place a smile in any furture posts then it means I'm being rued and insulting and am then looking at a ban ?

By the way Mr Bracknell was very understanding, Top man!!

No, I'm not inserting a smilie in this post. View it how you wish.

Of course no-one is going to be banned, but we have to accept that different people see different significance in the same words.

Some of us laugh out loud, some of us are deeply offended and most are somewhere in between.

Using smilies helps to ease the numbers of those who would otherwise be deeply offended. As I say, I'm more guilty of most in not using smilies to impart tone in my posts.

The point is we're reading what people are writing. It's sometimes hard to tell if someone is joking or not because its not face to face discussion.

No one would be banned over a mis-understanding. Unless they're Dwayne of course. :p

i know a 15 year old nerd when i see him post complete shit.

Biscuit will be upset. :(

Poor lad. He's having a hard enough time as it is at the moment.

He doesn't need childish insults being thrown at him all the time.

Isn't it all just about making NSC a friendlier place?

A place that (even) more people are happy to use?
