I was thinking only last night that it must be 20 years since I've had a pint of mild and best - the last time was with my dear departed grandfather, who taught me two life lessons: how to tie fishing knots and how to read a woman's signals in response to an advance: "the first 'no' can be interpreted as 'maybe', unless it's obviously 'no'.
