The Nightingale Sang ...... In Gods county

As we walked home from our local this evening we were accompanied by the song of a Nightingale, there can be no more beautiful sound coming across the fields, from the trees, it seemed to follow us home. What a wonderful place is our countryside here in Sussex.

Nightingales are magnificent. I remember one in my garden, way back in 1995. It was here for weeks. But it's not been back since.

There was a night-singing bird used to turn up in a tree behind my place in L.A. - the bastard (not a bustard) would wake me up at all sorts of times. I took to slinging clods of earth at it every night until it got the picture and found another neighbourhood.

I don't know what it was, but I seriously would have shot the thing given half a chance.
