In terms of taking Brighton to the next level, are there any league 1 strikers who could do a Grant Holt-esque job for us and take us to the next level? Given the apparent wage limitations I can't see us signing experienced forwards like some of the other top teams have in Jason Roberts, John Carew, Nicola Zigic, Kenny Miller etc (not saying they are all great!).

Apart from Jordan Rhodes who is on everyone's radar any suggestions? I like the look of Madine at Sheff Weds, notched 22 in 56 for them and still pretty young.

Chedwyn Evans looks a likely type, perhaps we could do a cash plus player (Hoskins) deal with Sheff U.

There's often a risk signing 'lower league' players. But i'm pretty sure a strike partnership of Madine and Evans would be good enough to get most teams into the playoffs in this league. Both young too. I've only seen them 3 or 4 times each mind.

Haven't a clue but I expect Gus has a few names that he'd like to bring in. Just glad Gus has to make these decisions as it can't be easy.

Whatever Gus needs to do to change things It won't be as simple as signing 1 striker from League 1. Both CMS and Barnes scored plenty in league 1 last season but have less than 20 between them this year and both are probably better players now than 12 months ago. In a bigger, faster & stronger league we no longer get the time or the opportunities that were created in league 1, we started well but a number of sides worked out how we would play and have adapted to try and stop us playing. Gus will not revert to route 1 tactics as this would undo all the work he has done so far and it would mean we would be heading back down to the championship immediately as premiership CB's dominate in the air over our strikers.

We will get promoted in the next few seasons and we will do it playing expansive creative passing football which will keep us up in the premiership long enough to build a team that can push for the top half. Each step is a massive leap and 1 striker will not make a huge difference to us. We need to get the best out of our existing players in all positions but we are only a short distance away from having a very good championship side

Mackail Smith scored 36 goals last season, it doesn't really matter how many they score, it's about how they fit into the team and style of play.
