(The Move's) Carl Wayne R.I.P.

It may be a long time since anyone here thought about the 60's pop band 'The Move', but they had some great psych-tinged 45s such as 'Flowers in The Rain' which was the 1st record played on Radio 1. Other cool beat recordings include 'Fire Brigade', 'I Can Hear The Grass Grow' and 'Blackberry Way'.

Carl Wayne recently joined The Hollies revival, but passed away from cancer, age 61.

Johnny Walker (Radio 2) has been suffering from stomach cancer and they were helping each other through it. Johnny survived.
He played Flowers in the Rain yesterday evening as a tribute to Carl.
Many fond memories of 1967 and The Move.
RIP Carl.

I had 'California Man'. Did they sort-of split and reform as Roy Wood's Wizzard?

I believe he was lead singer with the Move. A great band who morphed into ELO although Jeff Lynne and Roy Wood fell out and it became Lynne's band as Wood formed Wizzard, who's main claim to fame is a dreadful Christmas record.

RIP Carl

yup, Lynne and Wood both had big egos and wanted to be front man however ELO's global success only happened after Wood left and Lynne became the creative brain behind it. Jeff Lynne only joined the move on the agreement that he could form ELO.

Roy Wood did sing most of the songs but Carl Wayne, Ace Kefford and and Trevor Burton also sand lead at times

Sorry to hear about his cancer, as I would be to hear about anybody else's cancer.

But as far far as his prissy little so-called Pop Career's concerned... :salute: :salute: :salute:

I actually quite like, in a very naff way, See My Baby Jive, which is the Christmas song in all but lyrics.

RIP Carl Wayne. I too assumed til yesterday that Roy Wood sang on Flowers In The Rain and Blackberry Way. Not my favourite songs but played crucial linchpin roles in some of the Sixties compilation albums I spent a few pre-teen years listening to while contemporaries were overrating the likes of the Stone Roses. . .
