Zeal & Ardor last night in Southampton were absolutely incredible.

Perfect mix of African-American soul and heavy, groove metal riffs.

Speaking of the RHA, I’m there to see the Sex Pistols with Frank Carter next Monday. Then the following weekend of to Shiiine On festival at Skegness.

Couple of updates:

Saw Kelly Lee Owens on Wednesday. New album is lovely and dreamy and she put on a good show even though it’s just her and a couple of keyboards. Shoe ended with a superb techno workout which then brought us right back to the Dreamstate opening song. I’m easily won over with liberal, but judicious, use of a 303. So good. Really do recommend her current album plus her back catalogue which, whilst rooted in electronics does differ from album or album.

Im thinking of both @Weststander and @Wozza here

The venue is small but perfectly formed but a large group of chatty and excitable Gen Z coworker types started forming near stage right. I could sense they were going to be annoying, so moved away. I didn’t hear them but I understand words were had as they had continued their post-work chatter into the gig. They’d all gone by the time the gig ended. Everyone around me was more interested in busting moves.

Bought 4 tickets this morning for Gruff Rhys’ American Interior Tour.

I saw him do American Interior, complete with slideshow presentation, when he toured it on release. Absolutely textbook it was.

Currently umming and arring about Melin Melyn at Dust next week.

Melin Melyn will be great. Unfortunately I’m away that week.

Same. Slideshow and puppet! I remember some of the ancient and long lost sepia photos had a few random items like a Starbucks coffee cup and a US police car in them

This gig was downgraded due to poor ticket sales, and tagged onto, and after, another night at a different venue which was a lounge bar. The original night went ahead, some pub rock type act…Gruff came on after 11 and when the other band and most of its audience had left. The entire night was surreal.

Three days at C2C at the O2 last weekend.
Highlights on the main stage were Dierks Bentley, Cody Johnson, Tyler Hubbard and Nate Smith.
Lainey Wilson was good but maybe didn't meet my high expectations ahead of it.
49 Winchester were really cool.
Tucker Wetmore and Wyatt Flores should go on to do big things.
Shaboozey was a bit so-so until it got to 'A Bar Song' which obviously had the place bouncing.

I went to the Roundhouse last night to see Avantasia. Great show as always with just the 14 band members on stage for the final number. They were on stage for 2 hours and 45 minutes but because there are so many changes of vocalist and style it doesn't drag at all

Toby is an entertaining front man and I was also impressed by Kenny Leckremo from H.E.A.T. and his vocal range live. As always, one of the highlights was the appearance of the 77 year old Bob Catley from Magnum.

We got to the venue about 10 minutes after doors opened (50 minutes before show starts) and I encountered the longest queue I have seen at a gig of that size. It went from the Venue, down Chalk Farm Road, around the Morrisons and then snaked around the supermarket car park. Anyone else seen this at the Roundhouse before?

No but getting into the Roundhouse is a massive pain in the arse, or so I've found in recent trips. I guess if everyone gets there at the same time it would be quite the struggle to get through the doors.

Yes, I hoped to go to Troxy - she's ace - but was too busy.

I did see FKA Twigs on Friday though. Amazing show (bar a little too much lip-syncing), but terrible set design and venue (flat-floored cattle shed). Glad reviewers have called this out.

Hopefully she'll come back again, at Festival Hall or RAH or somewhere more suitable for a SHOW.

Went to see the Sex Pistols last night at the RAH. Supported by The Molotovs and special mention to Kid Kapichi who were superb.
Although the Pistols look like 3 old age pensioners doddering around on stage, Frank Carter gave some energy to them.Spent half the time in the crowd.
Good all round gig for a great cause in a stunning building.

Lucky enough to see 'Uma Thurman', aka Wet Leg, at the Moth Club last night. Fantastic! (and yes, they did that one...)

Anyone going to Hot 8 Brass Band tonight?

One of only two UK dates and a big group of us going for a mate’s 50th. Can’t wait!

Z&A are one of my absolute favourites. Stranger Fruit is probably a top 2 or 3 contender for my favourite album of the last 10 years and being on the barrier for them at Bloodstock in 2023 was absolutely special. Southampton a few weeks ago was just too much of a pain to get home from as someone who doesn't drive and couldn't justify the cost of staying the night.

Also went to the Knocked Loose show at Brixton, as well as nabbing a ticket for their show at the Underworld the Friday prior. Both spectacular shows for their own reason, but both underlying why that band have shot up in popularity the past few years.

I guess not?

Absolutely one of the best party bands out there, they barely stopped playing at all for 90 minutes. Getting a packed Dome dance floor to do coordinated dance moves one minute and sing “Love Will Tear Us Apart” the next is absolute genius.

They made Phil Coliins sound good, sang happy birthday to my mate and were in the pub afterwards. Oh, and they call our large, aggressive seagulls Air Dogs.

Air Dogs! Air Dogs!

It was great fun. I didn't know them until my friend asked if anyone wanted to go and I trust her judgement on music.

Luckily I live in Chichester which makes it a lot easier to get back from, although I did also drive to make sure.

I was working so couldn't make the underworld gig unfortunately.

Brixton was great but the venue is absolute dog for a Knocked Loose gig. The barriers along means you can't get a proper pit going, let alone the type Knocked Loose usually have.

Basement were also incredible, perfect tonic to the Knocked Loose madness.

I've got tickets for Outbreak London but think Knocked Loose and Turnstile may be headlining separate stages unfortunately.

Sounds like a great evening. I did actually see them once, probably over 10 years ago. They were playing in one of the venues on the seafront. It definitely wasn’t The Arch but was along that bit. We went purely based on Rob Da Bank championing them at the time. We enjoyed it despite being something I’d normally not go to.
