We're off to End of the Road later this week (for the fourth time). Normally, the line-up is packed full of bands I want to see. Can't say the same of this year's -- although it might be the case that there's no end of new, up-and-coming artists on the bill. Anyone know of any?
I will be seeing Pixies, Porridge Radio, Bug Club, Part Chimp, Tinariwen, Pigsx7, Moor Mother, BCUC, Ahmed Fakhroun
Have seen Yard Act, Snapped Ankles, and not entirely sure they really do it for me

Khruangbin and Priya Ragu are both wonderful, live and on record. In my humble opinion, anyway.

A pleasure. Black Midi can be a bit challenging, expecially their current long player, BUT their drummer is worth seeing them for alone imho.

I have tickets for two of the dates/venues of the Pitchfork festival in Berlin and Crack Cloud, and Guerilla Toss, are on the same line-up as Black Midi. I'll give them a listen, thanks

Just back from We Out There - what a fantastic little festival that is. Some great acts. Comic is Coming were unsurprisingly brilliant. After feeling so pissed off at what Glastonbury now is that has got me back into the mood for festival life again.

Must be due to London featuring so prominently with this particular music scene I guess but there were a few palace shirts on show, but all surprisingly disappeared after Saturday afternoon, really strange. Great fun at their expense, Leeds fans too.

Thankfully, I chose to go to The Concorde last night and didn't witness the Fulham shitshow.

Well, I had to go, didn't I? A name like that just cannot be ignored.

This was a little gem of a gig. Absolutely packed out, a pumped up crowd and an energetic moshpit which I avoided. The band were great, really accomplished and jumping from prog rock to banging rhythms, three guitarists battling with their solos, funky moments and...psychedelia!

I have been investigating further. They are worth the effort.

Plus Nilufer Yanya, Cassandra Jenkins, Alabaster Deplume, Automotion, Mandy Indiana (going in reverse order of relative obscurity). Plus whatever my kids want (Black Midi, Deathcrash, Anais Mitchell) and some of the big names too, primarily Pixies and Lucy Dacus.

Boileroom, Guildford last night. The excellent Coach Party. Luckily I caught the support band, Tummyache. Impressive. Great night of music for just £6 a ticket, a two for one promo to get people back to gigs. Disappointing to see so few youngsters given that the bands are relatively young.

Lucy Dacus was excellent at All Points East last week. Definitely recommend.

Mutations Festival have announced their line up. Superb imo. Squid, BCNR, Warmduscher, Bob Vylan, etc. Festival has 850 capacity - I’d guess it will sellout with that line up.

Relatively quick summary of End of the Road from my point of view:

Had to miss Lucy Dacus - thought the kids had an inset day today, turns out they didn’t so needed to get them home. Black Midi put on quite a show - mixing it up, changing lyrics, etc as per usual, but pretty thunderous, amazing musicianship and a devoted crowd. WRNTDP were excellent. Also enjoyed The Umlauts. Alabaster Deplume was quite annoying - had to leave. Soccer Mommy very good. Mandy Indiana were not at all easy on the ears. Apollo Ghosts were undemanding and fun. Pigs x7 were the opposite. Tried to like Khruangbin, but just got bored with the length of the songs. Automation were excellent, if a little like a Black Country New Road tribute band. Nilufer Yanya not bad. Perfume Genius - some magical moments; Pixies - classic after classic, as expected. Mid set lull as they played newer songs, came back with a strong finish. Deathcrash did pretty well, winning some new admirers with their Slinty post rock and cleaned up on the merch front. Cassandra Jenkins also very good. If only EOTR allowed you to get a mobile signal - might then be able to see their tweets about what’s going on. Weather just about held up. Food quite nice, if a little pricey, but that’s festivals for you. So, another pleasant EOTR. Would really like to try Green Man some time, but tickets aren’t easy to get unless you commit before knowing who’s on the bill, which I’m reluctant to do, but we’ll see. Anybody else at EOTR this year?
