Still in Brighton
I do understand the reasons artists charge high prices now for their gigs but as a frequent gig and festival goer in the 90s and early 2000s I can rarely justify the outlay nowadays. Most times it's buy a ticket or for the same amount buy their whole back catalogue.

Severely tempted to see Neil Young at Hyde Park this summer though, for 7th and probably final, time (last one must have been 2007). Will need to read up a bit on any recent shows however to see if he's still got the chops for it. Nothing worse than seeing one of your personal Gods totter on and ruin their legacy.

I'm the same on so much of this. The prevalence of streaming means that gigs are now their predominant source of revenue.
If I wasn't on hols, I'd be going to see NY. As you say, I doubt there will be m/any more occasions to do so and any way he's hardly likely to get better down the line. I'll record the Glastonbury performance as consolation.

I’m going to buy tickets for Metallica next week. They havn’t released the GA ticket prices yet, expecting 200 euros, BUT the numerous different “experiences” also on sale have been released and they’re at eye watering prices, some run into the 1000s. I saw them at Hammersmith Odeon back in the day and it was £5.50 and £4.50.

Spent a lot of money recently so will probably pass on the Metallica London Stadium shows for now. Saw this tour at Donington though and they were excellent. The two nights are worth it, so many great songs

Just checked and GA is £123 for Neil Young at Hyde Park. Love you mate but, yeah, thanks but no thanks ☹️. I'll stick a live album on that day. Jeez I miss the old days, feel sorry for kids nowadays (and artists).
Yup. Unlike you, I would have stretched to £123, but completely agree about the kids. It was such an integral part of my formative experience and, if you go to gigs these days they're full of fossils like us.
That's what half a century of neoliberalism does though.

I'm a little disappointed they're only playing the single night in Berlin...the two night, with no repeats, does appeal.

Saw him at Hammersmith Apollo in about 2008. It was £70ish from memory but worth every penny. I'm not really a fan of massive outdoor gigs as the sound is often rubbish and you end up standing about half a mile away.

Off to see Faust at the Royal Opera House tonight. Just to mix it up a bit
It's my turn, I saw them a few years back! I saw them at a small indoor festival. The previous year they had Micheal Rother from Neu which was superb.

It’s the opera not the band I’m seeing this evening. A rare French one for me, not my favourite operatic language but it’s a good tale and the production looks good

That is a shame. Will still be a good gig though. They are not going through the motions, they have still got it
I first saw them at Donington on Ride The Lightening, then the aforementioned MOP gig, three times on Justice then took a pause until Death Magentic and last on the Hardwired tour and they were superb all times. They have obviously changed over the years/decades and they're now more "entertainers" as opposed to sneering narly rockers BUT, I agree, their heart still seems in it and they are still clearly having fun and enjoying themselves. Same with other legacy rock acts like Maiden.

With regards the kids.

In 1987 I fancied going to the Reading and Glastonbury festivals. I did a couple of extra 10hr shifts at The Curzon Cinema in Eastbourne and that was enough to pay for the tickets.

For that to work now, with Glastonbury tickets at £375, that would need a 16yr old in an I'll-fitting polyester blazer, selling ice creams and checking tickets to be on about £80,000 a year.
