[NSC] The ignore user function

I think the ignore function works okay as it is.

I rarely see see a mention of a quoted post being hidden, so that tells me those I decided to ignore wandered off mostly anyway.

As the other thread as been locked I'll mention here that @Swansman is among my favourite NSCers.
I like him too.

The trouble is, the frothing mouths that are going on through some of the Chelsea / Potter threads are such that anything against that grain is somehow an affront to being a Brighton fan.

He has an opinion, that’s all it is, and often it’s actually hitting a nerve for some as there is usually a bit of truth in there.

There have been far worse posters on these boards with opinions and posts solely to intimidate, infuriate and incite. I don’t see that with Swans, just someone from somewhere different seeing things in their own way.

I have/had one poster on ignore, he is now banned anyway.
I don't know if it is within the adminstration functions of the platform to see who has been ignored by others, but I would love to see that league table and where I rank as an annoyance to others, and if I need a new account to carry on being annoying.

I've literally never used this - I'm not even sure I can - but a couple of folks including @sheebo seemed to be suggesting that it doesn't work very well in certain cases.

Can those who use ignore please elaborate so I can look to see if there is anything I can do to improve it?

Ta.
It works brilliantly for me. The only time I see there has been a post by someone I have on ignore is when their post is quoted by someone else. I am not sure I even see simple replies to posters I have on ignore. Incidentally I don't think moderators can ignore anyone (or vice versa. I tried to put one of the Q-bike team on ignore once, to no avail - )

All the best

Edit to add, to those who regard the function as a moral weakness, I couldn't use NSC without it, owing (as I now know) to my being 'on the spectrum'.

@Swansman is an important part of the NSC diet. Like roughage.

In real life you walk away from the dickheads and then avoid them.
I can't.

Edit: at work I create workarounds that have so far avoided fisticuffs. Wit seems to work quite well. And long words that the gimboid doesn't understand. Luckily I have a huge amount of freedom at work.

Never used it, tempted to but they usually get banned in time anyway. Besides isn't the ignore button a bit woke, cancel culture and all that?

I don’t use the ignore function, I just ignore people I don’t like. Hope this helps!
Yes. There are a couple of posters I have on unofficial ignore. This means I haven't got round to actually putting them on ignore but as soon i I see it's them I assume the content they've written is a load of old shit and i go straight to the next post.

It works ok in terms of not being able to see the posts but once someone quotes that post it appears as ‘you can’t see this message as you have user on ignore’ and makes it read a bit weird. Again, without going over old ground, it’s fine if the poster isn’t posting / being quoted loads.
Same for me, works for me. Luckily only one of the living dead that I now have on ignore is regularly quoted, and most of the time the replies, quoting that person, make me laugh, which is nice. I also find it weirdly reassuring how may people I have ignored in the last 20 years have subsequently been banned (as in "it was not just me" then....)

There’s nobody on here I would put on ignore now. The very few overt racists and homophobes got banned a while back.

There’s a few people on here that irritate me. Heck, some days I don’t even agree with myself.

But we’re all a pretty amiable bunch, aren’t we?

It makes me wonder how some cope with real life. A bit like sitting in a meeting where everyone wears earphones that cut out people they don’t want to listen to.
That would work a treat for people like me. Some people don't cope well with real life. Well, cope with congenital arseholes. I work with a couple. One has lost out (although he wouldn't recognise this) because I have spent 35 years avoiding collaborating with him in research, owing to his inability to behave nicely. A sort of 'real life' on ignore :lolol:

I love that this thread aimed precisely at posters who want to ignore other posters has been completely overrun by posters who never ignore other posters.

P.S. I also never ignore anyone, I think the moderators do a very good job of keeping the dregs of the internet out.
