Gandalph - Sir Ian McKellern once stated on telly that all men were gay, they just didn't admit it.

Nicky cambell - for it was his show- said " Iam not or never have been gay" to whit Gandalph replied " well, I 'd seduce you".

Actually the Greens are perfectly entitled to air their opinions, it's one of the benefits of living in a true democracy.

Playing devil's advocate here, but does that mean the BNP are too?

Bit of Devil's Advocate here then, the gay population of Brighton & Hove represent a huge section of the community, as do Asians in places like Leicester or Bradford.

Leicester City & Bradford City reach out to those communities though and try to get them involved in football.

At this time of all times (and bearing in mind we may need to fill a bigger stadium in future) perhaps the Albion should do more to try and get people from the gay community interested in the club. After all, one person's cash is as good as anyone elses, and contrary to popular belief, plenty of gay men are interested in football (not just for the players' legs either).

Could be a decent source of revenue if the club could genuinely spark a bit of interest.

Hmm...I remember suggesting something like this about 18 months ago and got .... a lot of abuse from bigots.

The gist of their argument was that the club attracts enough homophobic comments as it is without going out of its way to encourage more. Personally, I think that the club has missed a trick by not doing more to attract the gay community but there's an awful lof of resistance to the idea.

What Edna said.

I have a number of gay mates in Brighton and all of them have expressed more than a passing interest in the Albion and it isn't just fancying the players either.

Also, being very cynical at this pressing time, you don't tend to meet too many poor gay people either...

But maybe it boils down to this: how many Albion regulars would go out of their way to make them feel unwelcome?

Yes, of course but most are smart enough to ignore their crap too.

Yes, it's typical for gays to express that they believe all men capable of homosexuality, just because they themselves are originally men, and who are 'realised' as sexually gay.

"how do you know you aren't gay if you never tried it?" is the queer question.

"because I have a mind of my own and know what it is thinking, and because men are unattractive to me, and you better accept it " is my straight answer.

It's perhaps incorrect behaviour to be angry about a homo being attracted to you, but persistent attempts and assertions from the unwanted advancer are also a behaviour problem.
McKellen was asking for a rude response at that point.

Why should football 'reach out' to secular communities or 'choice' communities at all?
That sport is a passtime anybody can choose without their race or sexuality coming anywhere nto it, is to it's credit.

A better idea would be to concentrate on eradicating ALL associations with fan-dom's physical violence and bad language so that it can encourage (aka not discourage) families, children, women..... and be seen as a healthier spectator sport. The face of football needs to have all 'bad-boy' aspects removed so that it can be celebrated as a classier cultural experience all round, and only a positive addition to life's colourful mosaic.

Anyone can 'choose football' but there are still distractions and peripheral reasons not to.
