Just watched a very interesting programme on More 4, it appears the real brains behind the whole thing, the Ulsterman, got his share but was never caught. None of the others have grassed him up, so it must represent the biggest touch in criminal history. The gang were all in their early to mid 30's when they did it so it's possible he's still alive.

No they apparently came from another London criminal gang, pissed off at the size of the raid.

my dad worked on the railways at that time. Apparently and interestingly, they
had a good look at the London - Brighton line before going for the Glasgow - London.
