Not that you're generalising much (and indeed having read your responses so far on this thread I'm still not sure you're not actually on an elaborate wind-up). Personally, I'm delighted that Page 3 may be no more, just a pretty seedy thing to exist in a national newspaper at this point in time. And although I may occassionally wear sandals I dislike The Guardian as much as the Dauly Mail

I must admit I do enjoy a sweeping generalisation every now and then.

I suspect the view of the vast majority of the general populations view of Page 3 is very much a "meh". I've never found it worrying, or considered it one of the great ills of our society here in 2015. But a small, shrill minority has seen fit to get it removed for a largely unworried majority, and no doubt a fair few who rather liked it (but are now castigated as drooling perverts if they ever dare admit to it). They could have simply ignored it, but that was never going to be enough for them.

I just find it a bit irritating when people like this win the day.

I suspect the view of the vast majority of the general populations view of Page 3 is very much a "meh". Celebrating the removal of choice, sad innit. If they all found it so abhorrent then theres a very simple way it not ever affecting their lives in any way - don't buy the thing. But no, thats not enough, they have to have it removed so NOBODY can make their own choice any more. Pathetic really.

Unfortunately the choice was biased against women, if 'we' (meaning 'everyone') had supported the page 7? the bloke with his kit off, then things would have been equal. But 'we' ('everyone') choose mainly to objectify one sex.
The numbers bear this up, women are less well paid if they have the same skills and same experience than men in the same job.
If 'we' ('everyone') didn't make this happen then page 3 would be fine.

I expect in a few hundred years if we every get to an equal society then page 3 will be fine. But will our society be equally shit or equally good?

There is no way on earth The Sun has done this without extensive consultation and focus groups, market studies etc. etc.

I agree that it's a bit 'meh'. I'm guessing a lot of other feminists think it's a bit 'meh' too.
Casual objectifying of women from an institution can't really be considered to be a good thing, not when it's biased against one sex.
The numbers show this to be true, women are paid less for the same jobs when they have the same experience and qualifications. If 'we' didn't casually support this, it wouldn't be happening.

Will the sun's decision to stop page 3 change this? Maybe in a way it will make soft porn less ubiquitous and have a small effect on childrens, and therefore the next generations attitudes. But in reality if it causes debate and the truth about gender inequality to become more well known, i guess this is a good thing.

If only more men would speak out, then the bigoted feminists wouldn't be able to blame 'all men'. Whose sexism is quite tragic.

Its one thing having a civilised equal society but we are creatures evolved on survival, tribal and natural selection. Blokes are attracted to pretty young women with busts and boobs and women are attracted to blokes who can provide strong health offspring. I can't help it if the minger doesn't float my boat but I'm blowed if I'm going to be castigated for it.

And it wasn't advertising or society that formed my preference either - over the years I've come to many hair types, different bust sizes and slight or fuller women and I've been attracted to strong dominant women as well as quieter thoughtful girls. I'm only ever put off by evil bitches who tell me what to think and how to live my life in their shadow.

Maybe the world would be a better place if we could transcend our base desires. As you said we have evolved and could be operating above these instincts. I also think that it would be good to transcend our base desires before forming opinions on the goings on in our world (or poor approximations for them). Perhaps it is no coincidence that the knockers are on page three and not later on in the paper.
