Not re-inventing music, can be bloody annoying at times but infinitely better than all of the boyband/pap idol dross. At least they do actually PLAY instruments and made their own way to their current level of success. Still don't give a toss about them though...

I see them as a novelty act. Agreed they are a step above the manufactured Pop Idol/Boy Band shyte, but best Album of the year, I nearly pissed myself laughing

I agree, novelty, I reckon they'll come clean soon and admit they've been taking the piss all along (In the style of KLF and Milli Vanilli.) just to prove the (pop) music business is a joke and a waste of time.

The Darkness are the first new band I have bothered to buy an album by for over 10 years. I can't stand the manufactured drivel churned out by boy bands/pop idol.

Very few bands these days have any musicians in them, The Darkness do have talent and are different to anyone else around today. Just because it's possible to identify influences from other legendary musicians from the past doesn't make them bad.

Rock on!

They are totally tongue in cheek surely. Good on them I say for doing something different to all the pop drivel that is around. Better them than more Pap Idol or fame academy nonsense.

Its the media who hyped them anyway. Didn't they pay to release their own album in the first place coz none of the labels would back them ?

I think they are OK, but they are little more than a Queen tribute band.

I like the Darkness a lot, they are different from most bands at the moment and they've good some good songs, but the over hype is a bit annoying and I think that's why a lot people don't really like them.

I think you hit the nail on the head. As much as I like the Darkness I have to agree that I've heard 'I believe in a thing called love' far too many times.

The corner quietly rusting
So are they a
Sweet tribute band?
a Queen Tribute band?
A Tygers of Pan Tang rip off?

any more?

have to agree if you remove that stupid voice from them they are much better than most of the tripe that is pushed at the public these days.

With the stupid voice they are just as annoying as the rest of the tripe.

Can someone please tell Dido to just write the songs and leave the singing up to someone who can.

It's a shame that people can't cope with bands that are both talented AND popular. They can't be both can they? They must either be talented or popular, so if they're popular then they can't be talented? So they're rubbish then!!

???

Fair play to anyone who likes them but I just don't get the joke, if that's what it's meant to be. And if I'm judging them purely on music: there's much better rock to be found throughout any CD rack in HMV.

If their music had been released 15-20 years ago it wouldn't even have charted, in my opinion. Prediction: they'll be an obscure footnote in rock history.
