I also remember him briefly managing Burnley and when they played us we were down to 9 men after about half an hour. Think Ashley Barnes (ironically) got sent off for head butting one of their players studs. We lost 1 0 but CMS nearly equalised right at the death.

He does seem to hold some sort of curse over us.
Vincelot was sent off for mysterious violence that no one saw. Barnes was sent off for jumping over a leg breaker tackle.

I saw it. Vincelot and an opposition player chased the ball off the pitch, when running back onto the pitch Vincelot punched the Burnley player in the back and the 4th official saw it as it was right on the half way line🫣🙄

Your recall is much better than mine.
Hopefully you remember Gus' sarcastically applauding the referee and The Great Escape chant? Those are iconic moments in early Amex folklore!

The winning goal that day was scored by Kieran Trippier, now of course of Newcastle. It was an incredibly undeserved win for Burnley and it was our first indication that perhaps CMS wasn't the deadly goal machine we'd been hoping for.

CMS had that chance to nick an unlikely draw right at the end, but having done the running of two forwards for 70 odd minutes, was too knackered to muster a meaningful strike on goal when presented with it. Kinda summed up his time with us!

CMS scored probably his best goal for us away at Burnley, didn't he? Some sort of overhead-style kick? If only he'd done in that Amex game instead!

I think it's more that was his quality of finishing, desperately poor based more on luck than skill and judgement.

He loved Burnley away, there was always a goal in him up there and almost always it was an absolute screamer. But give him a one on one and he'd fluff it every time (Palace away...).
