Did you really expect a leftie to praise a right wing newspaper? It depends what side of politics you be;ieve in...

I think The Mail is a case apart. Ignoring the politics it really is a sensationalist, badly written rag with a much deserved reputation for ignoring the facts of a story.

Not quite, its the Telegraph and Sun on one side and the Guardian and Mirror on the other. The Mail and the Express exist in this bizarro world where everything will give you cancer, the weather is always 'extreme' and politics is about preserving our 19th century way of life.

By George I think you've nailed it! You have, however, overlooked the other other Mail/Express staples "Lady Di" and "taking half an aspirin a day will make you immortal/kill you before your time"

What is this obsession about being a 'socialist leftie' and having a few quid? Is that not allowed? Does it have to be a pre-condition that 'socialist lefties' are poor, or is it ignorant lazy stereotyping?

The point is, it's fine if you read the Daily Mail, but seeing as it's a paper that likes to peddle bigotry, misogyny, vague bouts of anti-semitism and exclusivity, it's understandable if its readers might fall into the trap of the misguided and meaningless notion that 'socialist lefties' with a few quid as hypocrites.

Still, with your sense of lazy stereotyping, I'd suggest it's you that needs to get out more.
The same as the obsession of the left having the idea that everyone on the right live in mansions and are rich. The left idea of everyone being equal is an impossible dream...every country has rulers...you cannot tell me that the presidents of communist coutries live the same as peasants....there is an even wider difference in those countries
Everybody...left or right gets an opportunity here to improve their lot in life... (unless your a benefit cheat who is happy to leech on the working class)it's just envy that some people have more than you....I do not hear Labour ranting that Tony Blair has 7 properties worth millions and earns £200,000 just for giving a speech...left and right politicians have far more than I have...just be thankful you were not born in China/North Korea in the 40s...

I don't think of right wingers as exclusively rich people living in mansions who don't know the price of milk. There are also the council estate ones with George Cross flags hanging out the front bedroom window and think there are too many dark people in the UK. Then there are the Daily Mail reading, leafy Sussex/Surrey suburban types who sit silently around the breakfast table only allowing themselves the odd tut as they leaf through The Mail and have never had an orgasm. Which one are you?

Let's not forget the Daily Mail's open support for the French National Front, a sister party to the BNP, last year. Apparently the only reservations were over the leader's 'economic protectionism', not the fact that she is a massive fascist!

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/debate/a...12-Marine-Le-Pen-responsible-vote-France.html

Disgraceful rag peddling fear, hatred, (far) right wing ideologies and outright lies.

Cheshire Cat

The most curious thing..
Tabloids are crap.

The Mail is a nasty vindictive petty minded rag that is full of hate.

The Sun and the Mirror campaign to be as bad as each other.

Does anyone still read the Express?

Well as you ask....I was bought up in the promised land of Labour...to get a job I HAD to join a Union...I had to work to Union rules of not speeding up the job so they are in work last longer....when Electricians picked up a screwdriver belonging to a Chippie and all hell broke loose, threatening to stop work on the ship...where there was a puddle of water from a leaky pipe and the Unions called a strike because they complained of wet conditions...yes there was craftsmen and hard workers but unless you worked to Union rules you were soon blacklisted. These sort of practises pushed my political thinking to the right...not everything is perfect by them either...to me,they are the lesser of the evils.
Yes,I live in a small town and I read the Daily Mail and lefties do not like the Mail because it shows the left up for their hypocrisy and envy of anyone who is better off than them.
PS.You seem to know about my private life...BUT just in case...yes I have been known to have an orgasm or two...

I am far from someone who views Unions with rose tinted glasses but there was a reason Unions took that stance to start with.

Alastair Campbell described the Daily Mail absolutely perfectly last night "The worst of British values, posing as the best". Nothing to add to that.

What really made me laugh was hearing Alistair Campbell calling the Daily Mail a bully. Oh, the irony!

I grew up in Liverpool under Militant labour and saw the very very worst that Derek Hatton et al had to offer (the main reason that Liverpool went to the liberals for many years ) but the opposite end of the scale is the nonsense I witnessed in the Rothermere household. If you want to see drunkenness, bigotry idleness and a sense of entitlement don't look at Keighley, Whitehawk or Moss Side look at Stroods, Chatham house or Blenheim.

At both ends of the scale there's idiots and wasters...it's just that the Mail tries to drive a wedge between everyone in the middle and aspires to a Britain that only Paul Dacre would choose to live in.

He didn't, he called Paul Dacre a bully. AC actually didn't deny being a bit of a bully, how could he - But he defended being called coward in comparison with the absent Dacre.

I am a Tory voter and in general agree with their philosophy, but that does not mean to say that I blindly agree with everything they say.Likewise,I do not disagree with everything that people on the other side of the political argument believe in.
Neither side has exclusivity on sensible or daft ideas.
As for newspapers,I regard the Mail,Express,Mirror and Sun as rags and wouldn't read any of them out of choice.
Bit fed up that the discussion has got quite so 'rigid'.
Finally,I have friends and acquaintances who are on both sides of the argument.I don't really care as long as I like them.Likewise, there are a few people I have come across who hold ' left or right ' views and I can't stand them because they are gits!

Oh,please my wise friend...do enlighten me....having been forced to work with them for years...no union card,no job...yes,they told the bosses who they could or could not hire...if non union then they called a strike...democracy in action...the only people who were guarenteed wages during the strike were union bosses.

Yeah, I regularly flick through the Mail but I always wash my hands thoroughly afterwards. I haven't mentioned the Mirror at any point, but it's a sh1t paper too.

(And, just out of interest, what's with all the ellipses?)

You're not forced to work with anyone.

Alastair Campbell is a pit bull and made the press fear for their lives if they dared to challenge Blair. Without him, or someone like him, cracking the whip and standing up to papers like the mail Labour are doomed.

My view s that he's waiting for the party to put Milliband to the sword and he'll get Behind Shakur Umunna who is the next Labour Prime Minister.
