Someone told me today that Derek Chapman was involved with the Buckingham Group. I had never heard of this before and told him he might be confused about that. Derek Chapman was a director of Adenstar wasn`t he, the company laying everyone off at the present.

I had a look through an old Guardian piece about Falmer/Nimbys and it said this..........

''In 2003 Prescott opened the new offices of Adenstar, the construction company owned by one of Brighton's directors, Derek Chapman. Chapman paid £500,000 for a 13% stake in the club and a further £500,000 for an option to tender for the building of the new ground at Falmer.''

Was that true ? Did he pay a retainer to buy on a tender list ? and if he did, has he lost his money.

Its the usual crap in the article by the way.........and OLD news.

Would it matter if he was?

There was some stirring a few weeks back because Adenstar, like lot's of building companies, may lay some off. That's not unusual at this time of year and, in the present finacial situation, would seem quite sensible as businesses have to slim down until new contracts come along.

Maybe Adenstar were not big enough, or experinced enough, to be the main contractors but that does not mean they may not be involved as a sub-contractor.

Derek Chapman is a local lad who made good. he's been an Albion fan all along and I am really glad to have a fan involved in the new stadium.

Oh, & i'm not in some so called 'inner circle'. I knew DC many years ago, before he had made his money. He was a good lad then and is doing what most of us would like to do if we had the money & the chance.

I think you`ve got the wrong end of the stick here as I sense you are 'defending' him against an accusation,.
Why ? He has done nothing wrong.
Its two innocent questions. Is he involved with Buckingham and has he lost money as stated in that old article.
No agenda here.... FG

His wife makes a very nice cup of soup though when we protested on the Falmer bridge.
