The best player YOU have seen?

I'm sorry he wasn't playing in the top flight, or for England, so the comparisons with legends of the game are lesser - but PETER WARD is the most brilliant player I have had the luck to have watched, and week-in week-out as well!
Lawrenson was the classiest defender ever, both Beckenbauer and Moore take a step back in comparison.

Both in the same side, what about that !!

I saw both Lawrenson and Ward, but I don't really think you can put them in the same category as Beckenbauer, Moore and Greaves.

Jimmy Greaves watched us play, he was a mate of Mullery too. He actually said that Ward was amazing, and I understand he also mentioned that he thought Wardie was a better player than him.

Wardie did put some top defenders on their arses, in his wake. I feel privileged to have been able to watch his talent at my local football ground every week.

Actually, I put Lawrenson in a higher category than Beckenbauer and Moore - so I suppose you are right!

It was a great pity that Mark Lawrenson chose to play international football for Ireland before England. He was "as English as black pudding"(said Alan Mullery) but his dad advised him that he might not get another chance to play internationally, and some old relative qualified him.

Gazza in 1993 at Wembley.

At the Withdean - probably Teddy Sherringham.

At the Goldstone take your pick from any of the Liverpool team of 1983 - Dalglish et al

Pretty certain I watched him play against England in either a 0 - 0 or 1 - 1 game at Wembley in the 80s.

I may be wrong, anyone know the line up ?

Also, anyone remember the Football League versus The Rest of The World game at Wembley in 87? That's where I saw him.

I recall England won and Linekar started for the otherside? since he was at Barcelona at the time.
