Injured elbow for the last match.
In theory he was fit for Edgbaston but given the elbow issue that popped up later it was probably for the best he didn't play.
Personally, I'd say every match he misses for any reason is a minor tragedy, given the rarity and excitement of a genuine fast bowler.

Even without the elbow injury that Sid has mentioned, the general expectation is that Wood is unable to play all of a five match series, especially in one such as this which is very compressed.
