Nice. Boxing Day was a bit crazy navigating the queue and the clunky website but got 3 that we wanted. Awfully high up though so will be keeping an eye out for other options.
I am going to Sydney and Melbourne for the Lions tour so couldn’t really justify going back again so quickly (can’t really justify doing Perth on that basis either, to be honest, but …..)

When you're in Australia, cigarrettes are very expensive as well. If you ask nicely for the ' imports' however, then they magically find a secret drawer where cigs are about 7$ a pack
I only found this out after a friend had bought 200 for $20 in HCM . As we filled out our entry card on the flight into NZ it said you could only bring in 50 but could pay tax on the rest which we were told was £170 on arrival . The lovely customs man let me take 50 in for my friend also . This is where we were told it was only 25 for Oz. Records showed only 8% in NZ smoked with 6.5% being of Maori heritage . I will say the 2 weeks in NZ I hardly saw anyone smoke . I believe it was the equivalent of £23 a pack . Then again I found most things in NZ very expensive.

I bought days 1-4 at Perth, which is the only test I’m doing. Came to less than the price of a ticket for a day at Lord’s!
Me too, got those 4 days, three of them down by the boundary. Annoyingly the presale code didn't work too start with, so missed out on getting seats in the England fan section. So expect to be on with all the aussies but still pretty excited about going!

Top tip for first-timers Down Under: if you're going to be based in a neighbourhood for even a couple of days, try and join a local club - any club, whether that be a surf club, bowling club ('bowlo') or services club ('RSL'). I've done all three in the recent past! Becoming a member is normally quite straightforward and usually consists of filling in a short form and paying the membership subs, which in most cases in my experience amounts to the passing over of a $5 bill. In return you can expect to receive highly subsidised drinks and meal deals in comfy surroundings with all major sports being shown and betted on. You also stand a high chance of winning a major cash prize in the regular members draw, or winning a big tray of meaty goodness in the regular meat raffle! It's a small slice of insight into everyday Aussie life and I can't recommend it highly enough 😊

Happily I was at the MCG for 2010 Boxing Day Test. Convicts 99 all out and then we scored a bucketful, all on the first day!

Had a drink with Change at Barnham at Tea. We couldn't believe what we had just seen.

We hadn't gone on one of his Tours, we were just having a Christmas away from home and seeing family in Melbourne having lost Mrs Jakartas mum earlier in the year but we are old correspondents from the Sussex CCC Fans website so managed to meet up for a quick beer.

Tickets were not a problem thanks to our Aussie connections, the MCG does after all have a capacity of 100,000....

Absolute fire drill approaching stumps, probably more England fans in the place than Aussies and you should have read the Papers the next day, absolutely hilarious.

Anyway Change at Barnham is a VERY knowledge bloke when it comes to Sports Tours here, there and everywhere.

Our family ties have now gone to Adelaide, which according to Change at Barham is the nicest ground on the Tour.

So something to me to sort out for the next Ashes.
98 all out, 98 all out.

That was the match I sat at home with a Baileys watching. I decided I would have one every time England got a wicket. My other half was rather miffed at me for the state I was in when I got up.

I had 4 codes, one of them worked. I managed to get in with the England fans on day 4 but the missus wanted shade and not pissed up convicts nearby on the other days so we have gone in alcohol free for a couple of days and in the shaded seats middle tier for the other one. Was on the phone to my Aussie colleague half the morning, he couldn’t believe that (eventually) my code worked and his didn’t!

Didn't think about the sun and shade! I'm wondering how easy it will be to move around the ground, imagine in the afternoon on the latter days will be a fair amount of space.

My wife has absolutely no interest so doing the trip on my own

I've only ever been to one day of a test match, at Trent Bridge in the early 90s, but as I live a short hop away seemed a great opportunity'

Should meet up for the Brighton game that weekend

Bold to think we’ll make it to day 4 in Perth

Went to Adelaide and Perth in 2013, and attended both SDU get togethers, are they still a thing on the Saturday night of each respective Test Match?

Good point. Do Seagulls Downunder have a presence on here?
