For all the 'past it' comments about Glenn McGrath, I believe that he is close to full form after his man-of-the-match display against New Zealand in the ICC. He took 3-22 off 10 straight overs.

So they will have a bowling attack available for the series which will comprise Lee, Warne, McGrath, Watson, Symonds, Gillespie, Bracken & Johnson. A good combination of youth and experience.

All in all I believe that England will seriously struggle to win any of the tests. I hope I am wrong as I have my tickets to the third test but I predict 3 - 0 to the Aussies

To answer the origonal question...The Euro, as England have more chance of winning that
???

Has to be the Football!

Up the Albion!
The Albion aren't involved in either.

Ashes, definitely. We ARE underdogs (again) but like Stumpy Tim I don't think it's all doom and gloom. We'll need some luck and probably more than our fair share of umpiring decisions but it is definitely 'doable'

As far as 2008 is concerned unless the youngsters come through we're going to be also-rans again. A team that contains Lampard, Gerrard, Terry, Ferdinand and Joe Cole hasn't a hope of winning anything.

Euro 2008. Best of an entire continent is better than just best out of 2 countries.

The Ashes, no contest. I just can't take the Euros all that seriously - it's a nice-to-have if you've already won the big one.

Now the World Cup in 2010 on the other hand...

Probably Euro 2008, simply because the memory of last summer's Ashes triumph is still fresh even if we lost the cricket this time.

But like Simster, if it was the World Cup, no contest.

Our cricketers did us proud last summer, when was the last time you could say that about our footballers??

Euro 96 or more realistically Italia 90!!

I am more a football fan than cricket but I would much prefer us to go and retain those Ashes down under than the over--paid prima donnas who are our national football team go and win the Euros.

This isn't a criticsm of you specifically but why is it that:

the cricket team has won the ashes ONCE in 18 years (against one other team and against a nation with one third of our population) and were absolute shit through the nineties.

the rugby union side has won just ONE world cup since it's conception despite having more FAR more players to choose from than any other nation.

the rugby league side has't won a single test series against Australia since 1967. We are a total embarrassment: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rugby_League_Ashes

and the best tennis players we've produced have managed ONE grand slam final appearance in about 3 decades between them.

And yet, it is the footballers who are frequently accused of being overpaid pre-madonnas etc despite regular quarter final appearances in the most popular single-sport competitions in the world by far. Are they really any worse than any other of our sports "stars"?
