As someone whose Yankeetude is beyond cavil, it is embarassing.
I live and teach in snow country -- we have past state downhill and cross-country championship banners hanging in the gym.
As a group, the Alpine ski team is, with one scholarly exception, the largest bunch of stoners and slackers on campus. Reilably know by the rest of the students as the easiest place to get dope. Keeping them away from the sherrif's deputies and academically eligible for interscholastic competition from week to week is a never-ending battle. Bodie Miller is merely the public expression of a decades-long phenomenon.
And they laugh at the freestylers and boarders.
Nordic, not so much. Pretty grim bunch, Lonliness of the Long Distance Runner types, actually, especially the ones who ski classic, instead of skating.
