Just saw Marisse Nadler discussed above, her albums in my top 20 along with Sharon Van Etten which is another blissful female singer songwriter - I Love you but I'm Lost being the pick of the tracks IMO.

Never heard Grimes.

There's something pure about a girl and a guitar, that no amount of bells, bleeps and whistles will ever outshine, for me.

Maybe I'll swing back that way at some point. Right now I just love the sheer depth and variety of sounds you can get from electronic music, I also love epic film soundtracks and just anything that's wholly immersive.

Don't bother reading music papers or websites, tend to go to reviews after I've listened to something. Listen to very little radio and then only via Mixcloud - would highly recommend this, Ear Spook Radio, some local DJ doing a show in Kilmarnock who very much sticks to playing three tracks telling you what he's just played, then play three more tracks - repeat for two hours. Excellent mix of styles too. Given up on all forms of BBC radio as I intensely dislike their template of playing songs then interacting with the audience - "what's your best record found in a car boot?" etc.

Much of my music is gained via band camp and soundcloud, tend to follow record labels and certain groups and thus get new songs in my stream from day to day as I build up the number of people I follow. Similar to Buzzer I play the link game on soundcloud go to someone's page then look into who they are following then repeating from the next one. Sometimes you go round in circles other times I've found a number of hidden and obscure gems.

Another area where I think we clearly differ as well is that I've somehow gotten to a point were I find 99% of guitar music painfully dull, when it was all I was listening to a few years ago.

Yet you are near evangelical in your effusive support of your mates' guitar band..?

I check out Brighton Noise for gig listings and previews. I take a look at Metal Sucks and No Clean Singing now and again for the heavier stuff.

Glad to see the mention for brighton noise, I would have been accuised of massive bias if I'd mentioned it.

King Creosote - From Scotland with Love. I enjoyed this. It's interesting - something different. How to describe it? Scottish/Gaelic indie-folk? I do wonder how quickly the 'something different' will stay endearing, though. I'm convinced that in 6 months time I will either love this record, or find it unlistenable. I THINK I'll love it.

I need a bit of time to work on my top 10 albums of the year. I've got a shortlist of 36 taken from around 250! I might try ones from each genre. Eels v Beck, Orenda Fink v Marissa Nadler v Sharon Van Etten v Mirel Wagner, Lewis v Saint Saviour, Painted Palms v Allo Darlin'.

I'm new to to Jon Hopkins but loved, really loved, his Immunity album. Just bought the spin off from this as well. I'll investigate the fisherman album.

Haha! I was about to say something there. To be honest, I'm not sure my politics are a million miles from HT's some of the time.

True. I do stray into One Nation politics at times; modern socialism does. And whilst we differ on Europe I believe we have the same UK goals and objectives, just different means of getting there. That said I fundamentally believe in "bigger" government, welfare and society which marks me as a lefty and I do consider myself a socialist.

99% might be an exaggeration. If they weren't my mates I probably wouldn't be as big a fan, but that's completely logical. I am big on Queens of the Stoneage though, and used to love Muse, so I would still be a fan.

I was "evangelical" about them early on as I felt they would go far. They did.

I know that. I do have interest in a very wide range of music, but for whatever reason I've recently gone off guitar music generally in quite a big way. This wasn't a conscious decision, maybe I've just burned out after years of listening predominantly to guitar based stuff.

Decent album, didn't go anywhere the first one hadn't been already though. I was really looking forward to catching them live but ended up a bit disappointed for a variety of reasons, admittedly some outside the band's control.

Try Fumaca Preta if you like Goat. Local(ish) affair, Resident named it their album of the week a few months ago and they play the Green Door Store for the princely sum of a fiver nect month. Value.

Yep. I think we're broadly similar on things like social responsibility, minimum wage, importance of unions, Nick Cave, German techno....
