I started watching BHA in the sixties and then everyone would say " are you going to the Albion "...it was historic...always had been ...always will be.
Those were the days before any rivalry with Palace...before any " seagulls "....Its our name...same as West Bromwich Albion..same as Burton Albion ( yes, there's 3 of us now, don't forget )
Always felt a bit sorry for Bournemouth when they lost " Bournemouth and Boscombe Athletic "..AFC Bournemouth was never quite the same.
When we move, we will be quite a long way from Hove but the name of the club must never change. I cherish memories of the Goldstone, of the walk from Hove station or across the park and over the Old Shoreham road.
Just mention of the word " Albion " brings it back to me.
It warms the cockles of the heart to hear James Alexander Gordon at 5 o'clock on saturdays saying...." Brighton and Hove Albion ( 0-1-2-3-4-5 etc )............

west brom are The albion, im on about when u are talking about BRIGHTON.

'Albion' derives from the Greek work for Britain, which is thought to come from the cliffs that can be seen along the South coast. Therefore, logic would dictate that the only proper Albion would come from the South coast, not a small town near Dudley, nor Burton.

I agree. The Albion isn't very fitting. Maybe Brighton and Hove Cocklovers? Or maybe just Brighton sends that message across

I believe it's actually derived from the Greek word for 'white' (believed to be refering to the white cliffs, as you say)

Hence albino, albumen etc.

Wahay - we have a COMEDIAN on-board! Funilly enough, I've never heard anybody say anything like that before regarding our club or city. You should be doing stand-up with that razor-sharp wit. Be a waste not too, quite honestly.

ps In answer to the original question, the answer is: No I bloody well won't. We are Brighton & Hove Albion - therefore we are not just Brighton are we? So it's The Albion then. End of. punish:
