Little bit long but I shall give my view on the players in the list:-

Demba Ba will be looking at a top 6 Prem club.
If Hoilett doesn't want to stay at Blackburn, with their parachute payments, then I doubt he'll come to us. Top 10 Prem club or abroad.
Johnson is inconsistent and probably no better than KLL or Noone.
Gordon won't be of interest with Kooshack having the number 1 jersey.
Berbatov is a quality striker but similar to CMS and will probably look for a payday somewhere away from England.
Pienaar would be a decent signing but will probably go back to Everton or another mid-table Prem club.
Clint Dempsey will be looking at a top 6 club following a few good years with a mid-table club.
Rodallega has already gone to Fulham.
Bosingwa.....won't be coming after Bruno's arrival.
Owen......won't even open that can of worms!
Huddlestone could be of interest. Big built, can play if he stays injury free. If we can work magic on him like we did with Vicente, it could be worthwhile.
Simpson could have been an option if it wasn't for Saltor. Probably more likely to go to a new Prem side as suggested.
Defoe would be an amazing signing but I imagine money would be a problem. Can't see Levy bankrolling a loan to us.
Boyata....don't need another defender.
Elmohamody......could El Abd tempt him here? Not proven long term in terms of quality but could be a decent signing although more likely to go to a bottom half Prem club.

Thoughts?

Hold up a second, Johnson no better than KLL or Noone? I rate them both but...seriously?! Hang on...you're kidding aren't you? It's a joke yes?

I don't rate Johnson. Never have done. He was good at Boro but is so inconsistent. Admittedly that is an issue with a lot of wingers. Ok, he is gonna be better than Noone or KLL but I would rather spend the £4/5mill on a central midfielder or a proper goal poacher.

In terms of build and the target man style they play. CMS may run about a lot more but they occupy the same area of the pitch. Neither is a 6 yard box kind of striker.

Another player available according to the Sun

ASTON VILLA boss Paul Lambert is ready to loan out Fabian Delph.

The midfielder has been recovering from an ankle injury and the 22-year-old will be allowed to go to a Championship club.

Really? I suggest you have a look at some footage of CMS goals at Peterborough and the few he got last year with us. I am pretty sure a high % would be in the 6 yard box.

But he isn't a Gary Lineker type, playing off the shoulder for the whole game. He is more similar to Rooney and Berbatov in the fact that he drops deep to receive the ball, will go out to both flanks etc. Perhaps I'm not explaining myself well.

By the seaside in West Somerset
Elmohamady is apparently talking to Hull
Huddlestone is supposed to be talking to Sunderland

Paul Scharner (not listed) is supposedly talking to Birmingham but would be fantastic for us.
Would love Delph on loan

I can see where you are coming from. CMS does put himself about all over the place, which is good don't get me wrong. Everyone likes to see a player put his heart and soul into every performance. He just needs to use this energy more efficiently. Gus has given CMS several DVDs to watch over the summer, don't know what's on them, but hopefully it is showing him which areas of the pitch he needs to be in and when, what areas of the pitch to use his great energy, when and where to make his runs for certain balls. Granted some might say he should already know this being a professional footballer but we play a certain type of system which he has never played before last season and watching his performances back might be more constructive than lambasting him and giving him advice verbally which he might not understand.
I know we have a patient style of controlled passing football but sometimes watching games I see through balls that should be played (obviously on the deck) and the balls goes sideways. But hopefully this will come with more players of the ability of Vicente, KLL, Noone, Buckley and Bridcutt. We just need to create CMS more chances and the goals will flow. On paper we are a solid unit for this coming season.

Don't get me wrong, I like CMS and want him to stay. We just need to define his role better and assist him as you have suggested we are doing. At the moment he is 1/2 "fox in the box" and 1/2 "hold up man". If we can get him playing all out, effectively, in either role, we can buy who we need to compliment him. That should help get the best out of him.

Couldn't open the link, so is this Adam Johnson we are talking about? Blimey - would take him like a shot! Not a cat in hell's chance, though.
