Dear Football League,

Following the sending off of our player, and subsequent awarding of a penalty (despite the ball not being in play - allegedly), we went on to gain a well deserved 2-1 lead. Could you please explain then, why our keeper, a full time professional, elected to punch a ball approx. at neck height, with only his own centre half within 8 yards, in the 93rd min rather than catch it?

Your prompt attention would be appreciated.

brilliant and you might have added
and please don't send us this ref again thanks

Amanda.

How does a referee look at the point when the ball is struck and clearly see what occurred in a completely separate offence miles away from the ball?

Exactly. And if there's any doubt a decision shouldn't be given...

Televised rugby sometimes has an ex-ref on the panel, that does add another perspective.

The BBC has a qualified ref (Brian Moore) as it's main rugby commentator.
And Sky have an ex-umpire (David Lloyd) in their studio most of the time

Right here, right now
I have heard Graham Poll on 5Live a few times. Always comes across well and gives an interesting insight into the way refs think during the game.

Seeing as they have to retire at 45(?) there must be plenty of good ex-refs that could be put on TV and radio to offer their opinions. Or even current refs that don't have a game that particular weekend.
