So it seems pretty much certain that the demise of FFP won't depress the market for players. So the big question remains whether our board intend to fund a realistic promotion campaign

No,our best chance FFP has now gone.IMO Mr Bloom will not fund, outside his own acceptable loses......and i don't blame him for that .

What a nonsense post. Palace won promotion in 2012-13 with a wages budget smaller than ours. There were three teams that season that had a budget 50% or more greater than ours - and they all finished below us, two of them at least 12 places below us.

Last season Burnley earned automatic promotion and they almost certainly had a budget smaller than us.

As of today, all 4 of the teams below us in the table are receiving parachute payments. And none of the top 6 are.

Cant argue about your figures or budgets, but perhaps these clubs (Palace & Burnley) invested more money in employing better people, who recognise talent, who then go and buy or sign players that strengthen their squads.

It is so easy to criticize though isn't it? In hindsight, I don't think anyone would complain that Bloom sacked Slade and appointed Poyet in his place. And yet Slade is now managing a club above us in the division. A Burnley fan posted on here today that when Eddie Howe left Burnley, they were 17th in the division, only 2 points off the drop zone, and had the worst defence in the Championship. Sean Dyche came in and earned them automatic promotion on a smaller budget and transformed them into the stingiest defence in the Championship. And yet, yesterday, Bournemouth (under manager Eddie Howe), led the division.

Last season when Wigan beat Man City in the 6th round of the cup and only lost to Arsenal on penalties, and got into the play-offs, many were touting Uwe Rosler as a manager they would have wanted at the Albion. Today, despite Wigan having massive parachute payment income, Rosler's Wigan lie beneath the Albion.

Was Eddie Howe a bad manager at Burnley, who suddenly became a good manager at Bournemouth? Was Rosler a good manager last season, who has become crap this season? Was Slade a bad League One manager? If so, why has a club with massive parachute payments appointed him as a Championship manager?

And it is the same with player recruitment; Bournemouth went out and signed Callum Wilson this summer, who scored 21 goals in League One last season. He is amongst the top scorers in the Championship with 9 goals. Did Albion show a lack of ambition in not pursuing him? Erm, well, no, because we signed the top scorer from League One last season in Sam Baldock.

It isn't an exact science, is it? With the possible exception of Blackpool, there are 23 clubs in this division doing everything they can to win every week and earn promotion. Has it been a disappointing season so far for Albion? Of course. Is Hyypia a manager who can turn things around, and make us challengers? I have no more idea than you. Do we have a squad capable of doing that? We could argue amongst ourselves until we are blue in the face.

When things don't go well, it seems that people can't wait to crawl out of the woodwork with their accusations, told-you-so's and general all-round bitching. If someone can provide me with firm evidence that there is a single employee at the Albion who isn't doing their best for the club, I will happily join the lynch mob in calling for his or her head.
