Hither (sometimes Thither)
I check the tv guide all too regularly, mostly to see what films might be on someone on some channel that day. Saturdays are always best as they have the full week ahead to trawl through and sometimes see what i'll saldy miss. Today, though, i got to wondering how the tiny description of something could ever really bring anyone in. The person would have to have a knowledgeable history of the programme in order to think either "oooh this sounds interesting" or "yes, that's a classic, i'll watch that beauty again". I suppose tv guides are sardonic and wishful for the public not to watch such a show, but i saw in my one today the following:
BBC2. 8.00. Terry & June. The couple erect a tent in their garden. (R)

I mean who, in all ideas of madness, is going to turn that on from that description? Then, though, the idea has stayed in my head all day and if someone gets terribly injured in the match on ITV then i'll switch over, i reckon, to see if that tent has gone up. And if not, then why not? Something incredible must have happened to prevent it. Could it have been electricity, a thunderstorm, a downpouring of hail, a terrible accident thanks to wild-flying rook, some soggy soil that a tent could never be erected in, a squatter moving in without them realising and claiming it to be a newfound home of theirs, or a gas cannister exploding as Terry mallets the ground one last time?
Maybe saying the least (which i am not doing now, i know) is the most alluring and entrapping.

I always thought that the Terry and June theme would be an absolutely perfect tune for Crystal Palace to run out to, it conjures up (for me anyway) the perfect image of Surrey Nigelity.

Having caught Terry & June whilst channel-hopping yesterday I'd far rather watch that than The Life of Riley, Miranda, Not Going Out, Two Pints of Lager etc.
