Really? So they believe we evolved from primates, not that god created man?

You seriously believe that? A Muslim bloke I'm working just laughed at this exchange when I shared it with him. Then he went off looking a little frustrated. I think you'll find that some people have faith which is predicated on what they understand the religion to mean in a modern day context. My best mate, who is a devout Catholic, understands this. Of course, we can all trawl the internet and find films that scream "what the majority of Muslims think" made by a very noisy - and I'll agree influential minority - that are full of unpleasant views. It's easy for us to get sucked up in that story.

And yes, I do think more Muslims need to do much more to get across - and shape - a modern view of Islam and what it should stand for in the world today.

The Quran does say it's ok to kill non believers, it's not a sin.

I think you'll also find that it says it's not OK as well. It's a conflicting book.

That's why religion never sits perfectly for me. But equally, I recognise it's not going to go away and I feel that those of us that don't believe have a responsibility to ourselves to dissipate the polarity and tensions that emerge at times like these. Ironically, I'd say that an "eye for an eye and the world goes blind."

On the contrary. I took 'automatic' to mean just that in its normal definition. I wasn't trying to split hairs by claiming that technically semi-automatics are automatics. Tell you what, why don't you google any American website to see what they define as 'automatic' and then come back and try to argue that it's me being pedantic? Good luck with that.

Christ, and get into a Triggaaar like row with you....I'll take a pass.

Believe what? The statement I made wasn't a belief, if was a fact - I obviously know different Muslims to you.

Frustrated about what? Which country did he grow up in? Does he drink?

I based my comment on those I know, not what's on the internet.

If the Muslims you know, perhaps ones from the UK, have a more modern view of their religion, that gives me hope for the future.

You're God now are you?

Does he drink?

Er, yes. Some Muslims drink. Who'd have thunk it eh?

Where do you live? Raqqa?

Shall we just leave this one? You think all practising Muslims are bad, I don't.

There wasnt one , because by and large people care about events that happen to them or their loved ones , or are closer to home and effect people or places close to them , hows the thread on plymouths new striker on NSC , there wasnt one ? why ever not ?

Brilliant response. I'll give you that New York is closer to Brighton than Mogadishu but, then again, it is nearly 4,000 miles away which, in my book at least, is hardly "closer [or even close] to home". The attack in Mogadishu affected me just as much, if not more, than the one in New York; I wonder why the reverse is the cause with you?

Rubbish mate. , im afraid , gou can bury your head in the sand if you want , but you k ow tbe truth deep down

I regret going off on one last night in response to what was in reality a pretty mild comment. It is because I respect you, for several reasons, that I find your apparent view (that all massacres are Muslim and all Muslims are up for massacre) so baffling. Where does Anders Brevik fit into your world view? And how do you imagine stoking up a war against muslims will resolve anything? You know that I'm not (merely) sanctimonious, and that I think and worry about this stuff. I missed the Lambeth Bridge incident by minutes. I just dont see how passing judgement on an entire 'religion' is in any way useful. It isn't even useful from a personal 'howl of anguish' point of view. I am pretty sure that actually our views are not dissimilar - I have no tolerance whatsoever for a 'freedom of speech' that allows for sedition of the sort promoted by that Chowdrey *******, and do not understand how the laws let him mouth off and worse for so long. But scapgoating a whole religion seems like guesture politics to me. How can it inform action, other than internment or genocide? We have to be smarter than that.

All the best.

Some do, but most from Islamic countries don't. Someone who lives here and drinks is not a particular;y strict Muslim, and isn't that representative.

Excuse me? I certainly don't and haven't said anything along those lines. You seem to be jumping to incorrect conclusions.

Fighting amongst ourselves over this, just like we do with politics, we'll never learn.

You are a little naive if you think that everyone that follows a religion automatically believes in stories like Adam and Eve etc.

You’ll find many Muslims from many countries drinking. From Iraq to Islington.

As for your last point, I’m delighted you believe there are good Muslims in the world, despite the fact that you think they all believe word for word a book that says it’s ok to go around killing people (your assertion, not mine.)

As I suggested, shall we just leave it for now?

But I never said that, I said the ones I know. I've talked to them about it, that's what they believe.

Do what you want, but you're jumping to conclusions and getting it wrong.

Might I suggest you get to know some other Muslims?

Really? So they believe we evolved from primates, not that god created man? The Muslims I know are also despairing of the terrorists, but they do believe the Quran is the actual word of god, they are nothing like your average Christian.

Sadly I don't think that's correct. The Quran does say it's ok to kill non believers, it's not a sin. That's not the same as the bible, which says killing is wrong.

Yes it does

What in your opinion was the basis of the reason for the troubles in Northern Ireland?

To create a united Ireland , yours ?

Why did they want to unite Ireland?

To create a socialist republic , nothing to do with religion , do your own fking research :lolol:

Unfortunately the only way I can research your opinion is to have a discussion with you.

I notice that Tommy Boy never answered. Few Tommys knew much about Ireland.

I presume that is meant to be a disparaging (look it up) remark about British soldiers-amazing how ignorant some people are about the Army.I can assure you that we received briefings from the Intelligence communities and academics about Irish history, bigotry (on both sides),geography, and tribal traditions. We were also taught some Gaelic words likely to be used to describe us,and not to be annoyed by them,as the children wouldn't know any better.
