Really? So they believe we evolved from primates, not that god created man?
You seriously believe that? A Muslim bloke I'm working just laughed at this exchange when I shared it with him. Then he went off looking a little frustrated. I think you'll find that some people have faith which is predicated on what they understand the religion to mean in a modern day context. My best mate, who is a devout Catholic, understands this. Of course, we can all trawl the internet and find films that scream "what the majority of Muslims think" made by a very noisy - and I'll agree influential minority - that are full of unpleasant views. It's easy for us to get sucked up in that story.
And yes, I do think more Muslims need to do much more to get across - and shape - a modern view of Islam and what it should stand for in the world today.
The Quran does say it's ok to kill non believers, it's not a sin.
I think you'll also find that it says it's not OK as well. It's a conflicting book.
That's why religion never sits perfectly for me. But equally, I recognise it's not going to go away and I feel that those of us that don't believe have a responsibility to ourselves to dissipate the polarity and tensions that emerge at times like these. Ironically, I'd say that an "eye for an eye and the world goes blind."
