Tell an ignoramus about Vicente

Not being a big watcher of international Football, I honestly hadn't heard of Vicente until today. So please - why all the excitement? What is he good at - ie likely to be good at NOW, not in 2005. From the You Tube clips, he looks like he could teach our players a trick or two. Would he make a good coach perhaps in time? What do you know?

He is technically exceptional. A good crosser, great vision. Not the quickest but he has quick feet and the odd trick. He has struggled with a few things over the last few years but was given a heroes send-off by Valenica this summer. In his early twenties he was one of the most highly rated players in World football. I'd compare it to us signing Joe Cole. If he is fit he will be an amazing signing. Oh, and he turned 30 just last month.

I know he is held in VERY high regard by Valencia fans who saw him help them to TWO league titles AND the UEFA Cup.

I also know he's been capped over 30 times for the best international team in the world.

Throw into the mix that most pundits and reporters seem FLABBERGASTED that we could be pulling this off, using the word COUP on several occasions, and I think we've every right to feel this is f***ing WELL GOOD

I'm glad someone else said this!

I hadn't heard of him either but his quality is way beyond what I would expect from a potential Albion player. Exciting times!

in my, and many other peoples, opinion he was the best left winger in the world at one point

basically EVERYONE wanted a piece of him, but he chose to stay at valencia who he loved.....seemed to fall out with their manager which, coupled with injuries led to his departure from the mestalla but he has still played in la liga in the past few seasons

300 appearances for valencia, around 30 caps for spain

basically he'll tear this division several new arseholes

He was lightning quick when young wasn't he? Maybe lost a bit of pace through injury but hes still only 30

He would have been a great signing three years ago but injuries and problems with management have meant a lot of missed first team appearances, at 30yrs of age he is not likely to regain his previous form, which is no doubt the reason he has been looking for a club for some months.

Quick yeah. Much more an orthadox winger then. I wouldn't be surprised if he plays a little more central for us...
Whatever anyone says about his form or fitness there is no doubt that he will be the most technically brilliant player in the Championship by quite some distance.

Was quality, not so anymore due to injuries. Good signing for a Championship club though, if he can stay fit.

yes, he would've been a good signing three years ago but he would've cost millions and gone to any of Europe's finest rather than a championship club

He has of course lost that pace he had and the ability to take on full-backs. He used to able to blitz past full-backs but he has lost that aspect of his to an extent...his crossing ability should still remain.

But, playing at a lower level he should of course have it easier than doing it for Valencia...so he should give full-backs problems consistently at lower level.

You say this, but he also had plenty of time in spain. Something he wont have here.

Let's put this in to perspective. Lille have signed Cole, Hargreaves has signed for Man City, we're signing Vicente. Ours is no more a risk than either of the former.

good footballers don't need to be given time and space- they find it themselves as anyone who has watched us play in the past year or so should surely know

a player who has played 300 games against some of the best defenders on earth shouldn't really have much to worry about when facing the likes of watford and barnsley

I admire your attitude but a lot to prove fitness and form wise. Not a given

obviously, and i'd be surprised if gus signed him without getting some sort of assurance over his fitness- it's part of his job

spanish players do seem to be naturally fitter though, look at calderon. He was out of a job for 6 months, came in and was already one of the fittest members of the squad
