So, why have a go at a profession you have no clue about? What do you do? Tell me and I will start laying into the profession I do not work in with some lazy stereotyping.

I have my own business, its more than fair to say that I do much longer hours than teacherteacherse significantly less holidays.

I don't buy working until 10pm at home. At my son's secondary you will be lucky to find a teacher past 4pm, no doubt they all rushed off home to get to work again. Even so with thirteen weeks holiday minimum per year, they are hardly worked into the ground. My opinion and only my opinion is they have it no harder than other workers and cannot and will not get any sympathy from me.

Bloody tablet.

Your argument is like me telling you, you are shit at business because it takes you so long to work and turn a profit.

Ahhh right, running your own business. That means no boss so you get up when you want, sit around the house all morning drinking cups of tea and then take holiday whenever you like because there is no one to tell you when you have to work, running your own business is a piece of piss. I have no sympathy for you now I know you are a lazy git who does next to nothing. Wow, this stereotyping of a profession you do not work in yourself is really easy.

How do you know if you do more hours or not than a teacher ffs?

You could tell my boss that. The only Thursday he's worked this year was the one of the Wales v England game, and that was only because he wanted to make sure no one was watching the game. Of course he didn't work the Friday or Monday that week as his missus down in Southampton demanded he go visit. It is a hard life.

Saying that, the fact that you've resorted to comparing the hours and holiday of a business owner to those of an ordinary teacher shows the inadequacy of your argument.

There's something you fail to realise, I don't care what you think about what I do. It's your opinion, everyone is entitled to one.

Spot the irony. As someone else said, those who fail to value education are the uneducated.

If I'm uneducated then blame the teachers ???

Either way I'm doing more than okay, thanks for the concern though. Glad you have to resort to insult, pretty easy to behind a computer. You must be so educated.

Ahem, the double standards in your posts are incredible. You are either Forrest Gump business savvy or a troll. I'll go for the latter.

Cry to someone else pal, everyone is entitled to an opinion. People are also entitled to think about me whatever they wish as well. I am perfectly happy with how my life has turned out so to be called uneducated by strangers on a website will not really affect me. I wouldn't mind being classed as Forrest Gump business savvy, his shrimp business made loads of money.

Resort to insults? You came on this thread to lay into lazy teachers, a profession you do not work in yourself. If you want to start making lazy stereotypes about teachers then of course we are going to defend ourselves. Love the way that if you are uneducated then it must be the fault of the teacher too, talk about pass the blame. Anyway, I am bored of you now, much like everyone else on this thread.

Oh so you are a teacher, explains a lot. I never called teachers lazy, I just do not buy into the argument that they work harder than other professions. Not everyone on this thread agrees with you, perhaps you only see what you want to see. Bottom line is I pay taxes as does everyone towards teachers wages, as such I get an opinion.

As a teacher perhaps you can answer how many holidays, inset days you actually get a year.

I nevered layed into or stereotyped teachers. If anything I think teachers work damn hard and are very underpaid in the UK.

Herein lie the problem, my wife is a teacher and rather unusually ran a business, as I still do prior to going back to university earning her degree etc.etc.

It is impossible to try and explain to a public sector employee as it is to explain to a self employed person the pressure and workload of each employment type, absolutely impossible.

Good teachers work extremely hard, nothing like what is usually perceived from those not in the profession, but perhaps ultimately they have a safety net and a guaranteed monthly wage, self employed do not it can be seat of your pants stuff trying to turn a profit.

Just take your pick .......

Blimey, has this "teachers get it easy" thread come around again already? Happy to add my standard comment to this: my wife is a teacher, works 8am to 10:30pm every weekday, probably 5 hours each on Saturday and Sunday. In the "holidays", probably works a 40 hour week, also takes some work with her abroad on holiday. Works many, many more hours than me for a fraction of the pay, is cleverer than me, more dedicated to what she does. She certainly does not do this job for the money and the holidays. Right, see everyone again in six months?
