What happens when the tenth person gets advice on how to avoid paying his beer bill?

Ha ha, brilliant!

The poorest 4 will have to stay at home and watch Sky TV on a 50 inch LCD tv?

And that one!

Poor analogy.

It would possibly only work if you factored in that the poorest men only ordered lime and soda and the richest ordered caviar and vintage champagne to take in to account the differences in their share of the bill (income).

Not to mention the rich man is bringing a few bottles from his father's private reserve and refusing to pay corkage on them!

Not quite a poor analogy though is it. Based on what you've brought up our rich friend is paying even MORE into the tax system by paying VAT on all the expensive shit he buys. He may also not actually use much of the NHS that he pays into because he and his family probably have some sort of BUPA cover. He will also help pay for the local school without actually using them because his kids probably go to private school somewhere. Probably pays more than his fair share for the roads too by doing 20k p/a in his 15mpg Jaguar which costs £500 a year for RFL too.

If the rich took more of the benefits that they pay into i can understand your arguement, but as it is, its a bit bollocks isn't it

I like the analogy. Too much rich bashing goes on, where as in reality they pay an absolute load in taxes no matter how good their accountants are. Ok it may not be the same percentage of total income as middle to lower owners, but then again is it 'unfair' that the rich should get to keep a higher proportion of the income that they worked hard for? Tax them too much and it removes the motivation to become high earners in the first place.

So, the rich should take more of the benefits they pay into so in the end everyone only gets out what they pay into the system. Doesn't that defeat the idea of a philanthropic society.

Pity the poor rich! How many entrepreneurs do you know that have not started a business because of the tax system. Would they rather work hard and earn £500k and give 50% in tax or would they earn £150k and pay 40% in tax (roughly). As for your line 'is it 'unfair' that the rich should get to keep a higher proportion of the income that they worked hard for?' Are you suggesting that the more you earn the lower your rate of tax should be? You also suggest that the rich are the only ones that work hard. Besides, the top earners in the country already pay a lower proportion of their earnings due to tax avoidance. About £150b at the the last count. There was the case of the hedge fund manager who paid a lower rate of tax than his office clearners.

"I'm going to reduce the cost of your weekly beer by £20.” Drinks for the ten men would now cost just £80.

...

And so, the fifth man, like the first four, now paid nothing (a 100% saving).
The sixth man now paid £2 instead of £3 (a 33% saving).
The seventh man now paid £5 instead of £7 (a 28% saving).
The eighth man now paid £9 instead of £12 (a 25% saving).
The ninth man now paid £14 instead of £18 (a 22% saving).
And the tenth man now paid £49 instead of £59 (a 16% saving).
Each of the last six was better off than before with the first four continuing to drink for free.

That's only £79. One pound short of the bill. The landlord should ban the lot of 'em for being innumerate.

Brits are only happy if they have enough money to go pub at the end of the week.

is it any surprise why arabs are the richest people on earth? and do not say oil because that aint the reason

i think you wil find that arab countries without oil
are not very well off at all
that is why dubia etc are trying to expand tourism for when the oil runs out

They should have gone to a wetherspoons, they could have had a burger and a pint for £3.99. If they all had that 'meal deal' it would have saved the tax payer £60.10 and they'd have been fed too.

Yet another example of government inefficiency. No wonder the country is going to the dogs.

Brilliant spin on reality, sadly i don't get my beer brought by a rich man, i pay for my own.
In truth, our tax system does penalise the low paid with direct taxes as you well know.
The lowest paid in the group will be paying a far higher marginal rate of tax on his beer than the rich one, and thats why "we all pay the same" taxes are unfair and progressive taxation is the only way.
That said, i agree with you that the wealthy are a finite resource that needs to be treated just as fairly as everyone else and should not be seen as the one that buys the proverbial beer.
My experience of the working class suggests that most would tell the rich guy to stick his money up his arse and insist on buying thier own anyway.

brilliant :lolol:

Not sure, but there are plenty of businesses that have started up in the UK but when they've decided to expand have done that expansion elsewhere as the tax rates were more favourable there

Sorry, are you really suggesting that the reason "arabs are the richest people on earth" is because they don't drink?

1. You know very little about arabs do you? They drink and whore around like sodding fish.
2. Thanks for your incisive analysis of the causes of poverty and wealth. A nobel prize in economics can only be a matter of time.

And a hint to you aids, go look up who are the richest people on earth - you'll find they're american.
