KUIPERS INTERESTED IN STAYING AT CITY

09:30 - 12 September 2003

Hull City loan star Michel Kuipers today broke the silence on his long-term future at the club and revealed he would be interested in a permanent move to the Kingston Communications Stadium.

Kuipers looks certain to line up against Southend United at the KC tomorrow after making an impressive debut in the 0-0 draw at Doncaster Rovers last Monday.

The big Dutchman is currently on a month-long deal from Brighton as cover for the injured Alan Fettis but there is speculation the arrangement could be extended.

Manager Peter Taylor has already revealed he could be interested in signing Kuipers and now the former marine has told the Mail he would not rule out a move.

Kuipers said: "At the moment, I'm just trying to help the gaffer and the rest of the team. It's not really for me to say but of course I would be interested in coming here.

"I am enjoying it and there's a very good atmosphere in the dressing room. The boys are all in it together. It was a big thing at Brighton when we won two championships and it's the same here.

"However, I don't know what will happen in the longer term. I haven't spoken to Brighton. We'll just have to wait and see."

Kuipers has already ousted ex-first choice Paul Musselwhite but his loan stay is due to expire when Fettis hits the comeback trail in a couple of weeks.

Taylor is giving little or nothing away about his long-term plans but if Kuipers does stay, it would spark a red-hot battle for the first team jersey.

The City boss managed Kuipers at Brighton and rates the big shot-stopper very highly. However, he has stressed both Fettis and Musselwhite are still very much part of his plans.

If Roberts keeps on insisting on leaving his line in a kamikaze fashion, maybe its time to recall FDM?

Thoughts?

He does not sound happy but he had to go on loan to get match fitness. The way Roberts is playing I can,t see him giving way to Kuipers. If he does leave it is a shame it had to be this way:(
