Sorry Mr Burns but you made a schoolboy error there. You have to allow for the degrading luminance of the floodlights in the West stand as these generally are different due to all the hot air dissipated from underneath. You need to add this line at the end pi/D^2 * c/pi/R^2 = c/(D^2*R^2) lux. Please note though that this does NOT take into account any chromaticity changes of the South stand beer lighting!!!
I hold my hands to that one. I fully understand what you are saying, but you have to cut me a little slick, it was 1am when I posted that.

Its a very interesting point about the beer lighting. I had overlooked the possibility of the bar lights being dimmed or off although if they brought the shutters down after half time. Any someone confirm if the lights are switched off or dimmed during the game in the concourse, so I can update the tactic diagrams for the players.

Isn't that supposed to be the strength of a good team, get points even when playing badly so why does it flatter us, we are where we are because we deserve to be there.

Well I can't disagree it's a well used term ... not sure I'd apply it to us this season though. Have been to all home league games and just 2 away and I'd say our real strength has been at the back even more specifically Greer - El Abd/Dunk - Bridcutt who have looked as good a combination as I've seen this season.

Don't get me wrong I'm not complaining in the slightest but if we are talking next season I would hope Gus looks at taking the possession we enjoy further up field and improving our ability to create more opportunities for the front runners. How he does that is a whole different argument!!

Brighton will be playing Four - Four - Fcuking Two

But yeah, we do need to go more attacking - and to do that we will need a new striker, maybe one who can work with CMS and get him scoring too - kill 2 birds with 1 stone.

Other than the above, more of the same as it works most of the time.

We don't have the midfielders for 442. Plus 433 is better with our players.

442 is a dead formation in modern football. Lets look at the top of the Premier League and what formations teams play.

Man Utd 4231/433
Man City 4231 with Boletelli further forward than the other wide forward player and joining inside wherever possible (lets call this the Barnes role)
Arsenal 4231 Walcott = Barnes
Tottenham vary between 442 and 4231/433 mostly the latter
Chelsea 4231
Newcastle 442 The only team to play that system regularly in the top 6. It is to be noted though that they generally line up with their wingers set up to cut in (left footed Ben Arfa on the right, and the opposite for Gutierrez) So they do not lose the midfield battle.
Liverpool 4141 or 4231 Kuyt = Barnes
Everton 4411 (with Cahill being the one behind the striker, so effectively a midfielder making it 451) or 4231

From all this we can see that 4231 is the most popular formation these days. It seems to me that managers/coaches are most concerned with winning the midfield battle. A few years back one defensive midfielder was enough (see Chelsea with Makelele under Mourinho) now it seems most sides like to have two in there. We will not be seeing 442 except in exceptional circumstances, under Gus.

I'd like us to buy a big striker and then get the full back to bang it 50 yards into the channel. And then watch their full back bang it back down the channel from whence it came. I'd like to see us run around really fast for the whole game.

This year has just bored me. All those idiots claiming that you cant win football matches without the ball. Rubbish. Bang it long, chase down the channel and then see what happens. NOt sure what the problem is with that approach.

I'm not say we should play 4-4Fucking-2 but i do think we should play to our strengths more, that strengths being wingers. 2 of Buckley/Lualua/noone starting each game with one coming on would scare most of the teams in this league stiff. But at the moment we don't have the players to do this, we need a player like Robson or Bailey that we saw the other week when borough came down and dominated the midfield. Them two players bullied ours with Arca to make things just happen in front.

This obviously is all in my opinion and it could be complete bollocks.

Dead right there, we really don't create enough for our front men & when we have been caught in possession it's been in our own half & we've been punished or just about got away with it.

Probably been said already, but there's no such thing as "being found out".

Everyone knows how Barcelona, Real Madrid, Man Utd etc play, it's just they have the extra quality that stops teams doing anything about it. We have added real quality and depth to the squad over the course of the season and it's up to Gus and the players to keep learning and developing from each game and then strengthen again in the summer.

We could play two wingers in the 4231 formation, if they got better at their defensive duties. This is why Barnes gets to play week in week out, he helps his full back so much. If KLL and Buckley play, our full backs will get exposed more often. If we found a more mobile defensive midfielder than Navarro, then it is possible to play this way as he could cover the full backs. I expect if we did this though it would be at the expense of Vicente (or Vicente like player) as he is not strong enough defensively to cover Navarro's position. The whole thing comes back to this modern day obsession of controlling the midfield.

As you say though Terminator this is all my opinion on Gus's thinking so could be complete bollocks.

In addition to my previous thoughts, the striker will have to change. Play this way (with two wingers) and you have to have someone who can hold it up. Ideally someone who has the pace to get in behind too. So a combination of CMS and Vokes is needed, this player will not come cheap and is obviously a very rare beast.

I'd say that was a pretty fair shout and would be a good start. I used to think CMS needed a target man to play off but having seen more of Vicente I now think he could do better with the ball coming through from behind or even over the top from time to time ... sort of puzzling that for the most part since Vicente has been back Gus has favoured Vokes

What I really like about the Bridcutt/Navs (New Signing)/Vicente MF is the way it allows Bridcutt more latitude to come forward and either link up with Vicente or get straight at our man up top ... we weren't seeing that earlier on and it felt like we were a man down all the time.
