presumably i don't need a license if it's under 50" and ornamental only?

On April 6th 2008 legislation came into force banning the sale of Samurai and other curved swords with a blade length of 50cm/20"
(not 50") or more. A subsequent amendment allows such swords i.e. those over 50cm in length to be legally purchased provided they are
hand made using traditional forging and production methods.

They often sell them in blacksmith's tents at country fairs. Or you could find a blacksmith who makes them.
