Aren't you forgetting the Brazil v France game in 1986 when Bellone's penalty in the shoot-out hit the crossbar, hit Carlos' back and eventually went in. Amazing!

It would have been a travesty of justice if Holland hadn't gone through after the luckiest ever penalty by Freddie Ljungberg - hitting the cross bar then an assist of the keeper's back :lolol:

I actually thought that if this happened, it didn't count. Once the ball has stopped going FORWARDS, that this the end of the penalty, and if it hasn't gone in the goal, it counts as a miss.

Anyone clear this up? Had the ref made a boo-boo? Not that it affected the final outcome - thankfully for the ref.

yes a few of us had a great debate about this last night..when does the penalty actually finish!? my mate argued that if southgates penalty against germany had been taken and then left that the direction of the wind may have then blown the ball into the goal mening southgate scored but if the theory that the ball has to travel forward is correct then this woyuld not be possible

yes ive read that 5 times and i still dont understand what i was saying :shootself :D
