I don't think France had beaten England in a competitive game until last week (could be wrong...)

They beat us 5-2 as part of the 1964 European Championship. The match was actually played in 1963 as in those days the early rounds were played on a two-leg knock-out basis (a bit like the old European Cup) We got France in the 1st Round, drew 1-1 at home and got stuffed away (in what I believe was Alf Ramsey's first match in charge). Like most years (apart from 1996) our European involvment ended early.

PS filthy, I don't think you can call Sweden our 'jinx' team, that's like saying Man U are Brighton's 'jinx' team. We haven't beaten them for over 30 years because they've been consistently better than us. Never forget historically how poor England have been (see above).

If we beat Portugal tonight I say bring anyone on. This is going to be our hardest game so far - including the French. In fact, this game will be the hardest we'll play even if we the tournament.

Can't agree with you there. Holland won't beat a well-organised, reslient team like Sweden.

I would expect the Swedes to stifle the Dutch, and have the ability to break their weak defence down - The Dutch have hardly set the tournament alight yet
