As I'm a steward I can only go to away games which I do about 80% of.My son ( who is 6 in May ) comes with me to reasonable local games. Before we go through the turnstiles I always say to him, what you hear, see or say in the stadium stays in the stadium, even now hear never repeats any of the bad language at home or school.

I was in the SWC today and at one point gave it a 'fxxk off Forest' as their fans celebrated getting away with yet another dodgy decision by the ref. Behind me I heard a lady saying to a child 'that was not a very nice shout at the other fans', which was fair enough I thought. If she had asked me to tone it down I would have explained where the family stand was.

I'm not a massive fan of swearing at football. Nothing wrong with the odd expletive, but constant swearing from some one sitting behind you, who is talking absolute drivel is a major bore.

I kind of think football is all about shouting and having a good swear at players, the ref etc.
Never to impressed by people who have to use swearing as punctuation though.

Got a bit nasty in WSL when family in the hospitality boxes celebrated Forest s 2nd goal. Some people near me took exception, which might have included bad language. Seemed to upseat the little boy with them.

It's the talking drivel that bothers me, rather than the swearing, tbh. Often the swearing is spot on, but then you get the analysis of the play, and you just wish they'd shut up.

Exactly this. People do sometimes swear at football - it's all part of the passion. Any parents who can't accept that should move their kids to the family stand - simple....

Once they have moved their kids to the family stand, can they then ask them to stop swearing ? The gobby little darling behind me is about 14.

Yes I thought the family stand is no swearing - which is fine. So yes!

I had a couple of young Danny Dyers behind me yesterday and every other word was the F word. That was excessive but he was at a Football Match, my Son know's what to expect so we just chuckled at how stupid he sounded.
He even called Calderon a "F**cking Melt at one point.

What is a Melt? Is it a pastry??

Disappeared on the 40th minute and didn't see him again after that.

In short, people swear. It's an inability to express themselves using a broader range of English.

Pretentious? Moi?

So why are you so bothered about what his kids hear?

I think he's worried about the example I am setting my children - which is exactly what the wife would say

lets be honest, if they didn't hear it at football / from me, then they'd have heard it as soon as they start school. someone told my 4 yr old that santa didn't exist & its just your parents buying the presents - that upset me more

Had two kids about 9 or 10 years old sitting behid me, one asks his dad if he can use the 'F' word!!! to which the dad replied "No it's not acceptable" but then allowed them to use graphic homophbic language until someone interjected and told them the errors of their ways.
