And the fact that Rooney is brought up as the only example for this and that was 20 years ago proves the point doesn't it? It is incredibly rare for someone so young to be starting for a PL team, especially leading the line, for good reason.
Yes, it proves it is rare, not that it can't possibly happen.

Wayne Rooney had started in about 20 PL matches and scored 7 PL goals by his 18th birthday.

He was a looking like a middle aged man at the age of 18, I don’t think Rooney is a great example plus he’s almost the only one

nobody's arguing it isn't possible. just that it's probably not a good idea to possibly be relying on a seventeen year old because we've sold our top scorer and maybe undav doesn't work out/gets injured

No one is going to rely on Ferguson... there's Welbeck, Undav, Trossard, Enciso, Mitoma and others who can play in that position. And Maupay is still around so far.

And look at how that turned out for Rooney. He was on the decline by about age 25

Not a lot different from Owen and Fowler... as an Irishman, Ferguson would not be under the same pressure from media and fans however.

That said.. maybe comparisons with these players could wait until he's scored a goal or two.

I wouldn't rule it out just because Maupay is sticking around for this season. He's still out of contract at the end of the season so it's possible this guy could be signed now and loaned back to Swansea, or someone else, for the season.

Oh no, not the dreaded sign and loan....................

Left footed.

Could sit on the left and come central?

Very young and still lots of development to go?

Despite the fact that the Championship level marking (for many of these goals) is nowhere near what he’d find in the EPL, he seems to finish powerfully in the right spots to avoid keepers saves.

I’m IN. A Welbeck back up different to Undav, Maupay, Trossard and Enciso.
